Smart wheel again

So when my cruise and wipers go out I always unplug the decoder to reset it. Up until now every time I’ve plugged it all back up the cruise and wipers would work again, usually for many months. Now not so much. Has anybody here ended up buying a new decoder from Spartan and fixing this issue??
Thanks
Jimmy

x2. I have to reset my smart wheel seemingly every other day now. Still works every time, but I too wonder if replacing the unit would help.

I'm new to the Smart Wheel and its working ok but in case something acts up can you explain what unplugging the decoder means and a picture or location of it would be greatly appreciated.

I don’t have a picture but the outside small compartment I’m front of the front tire has all the fuses etc.. there is a black box called a decoder with several harnesses plugged into it. When I used to unplug them then plug them back in, everything on my steering wheel would go back to working. Bunch of post on here about it. This time it has not solved the problem

Had similar issue in my Select Limited, turns out the clock spring was bad, Pauls' RV replaced mine and it works fine now

Did the clock spring affect both sides of the wheel or just one?
Everything on the right side of my wheel just quit working the other day and I installed a temporary windshield wiper switch until I can diagnose the problem.

So even with the problem being the clock spring, it would still reset at the decoder?

Lost our cruise and wipers also. Checked everything. Turned out to be the buttons on the smart wheel (160K miles). Replaced the buttons and everything is fine. Some with similar problems replaced the clock spring. We checked power and it was definitely the buttons. Good luck.

That’s a lot of buttons, how did they all go bad at the same time?

Curious what does the clock spring do? I assume you pull the steering wheel off you would see the clock spring?

The clock spring is the group of wires which allows movement in the steering wheel while staying connected.
The buttons are in two groups - right and left. You replace them all as a unit when they get worn down and become intermittent. Apparently it's pretty common for OTR Truckers who have lots of miles on their rigs.
