What % of TSS have the paint checking issue?
Just curious as my 06 is one of the ones with the bad Fiberglas (Dow Corning) sides that led to paint cracking. Did all the 06s use the same Fiberglas or did some use another style. Was it just random draw? I've seen some 06s and other years that look fine. There are a lot of years in questions by most of the RV mfgs so it's not limited to us. It was pretty wide spread thru the industry. Curious what others have done for repairs and any reasons as to why some have the cracking and others are just fine. Thanks

My 06 Select has just a little bit on the passenger side right in front of the bedroom slide. You have to really look close to see it. Been the same since I discovered it through this site about 1 1/2 yrs ago. Inspected the rest of the coach and if there's additional issues they're too minor for me to see.

From what I have been able to understand it is random (luck of the draw) among all mfgs. My 06 does not have it, however my friends 06 Holiday Rambler has it.

Ughh. I've got it on both sides. Drivers side is definitely worse. It must have faced the sun more when the original owner had it. Probably wasn't kept under cover like it is now that I have it. Eventually, I will have to address it and it appears to be Very expensive $$

Nothing on my 05, but I wonder if color has anything to do with it? Mine is fairly light (silver with med. grey stripes) and the darker colors do get warmer in the sun (more thermal expansion/contraction).

I've got an 07 Select. The driver door is covered with it and it shows in the sun big time. The color is black. Have some on the driver side slide out side also. Did anyone every take this to task and have the manufacture of the fiberglass pay for this crap?

Mfg went bankrupt. There is no help. After extensive research the truth is, to fix it you will have to have all the Fiberglas replaced and then repaint. Otherwise it just continues to get worse. The front and end caps are probably fine but both sides will have to be replaced. And it ain't cheap!

All I ever heard was A division of Dow Corning. The problem is rampant thru the industry. Some RV mfgs pitched in and helped in the repairs. Others did not.

I am curious about this. I do not have the problem but The division of Dow corning did not make the coach in our case tiffin does. I would think that the lawsuit would be against tiffin and they would have to resort to trying to recoup their losses against the fiberglass manufacturer. A case in point. If you bought Chinese made sheetrock from Lowes. A lawsuit was initiated against lowes and the settlement was made with lowes to pay people that bought this sheetrock. I do not know what Lowes did against the sheetrock manufacturer but I received a settlement check from Lowes. How would this be any different ?

I believe the RV mfgs did go after the company that made the defective sides which ended with them filing for bankruptcy. Then it was up to the RV mfg to handle it as they saw fit individually. Some stepped up, some shared the repairs with the owners and some did nothing. My coach builder is Travel Supreme so obviously I am on my own. You can look at the other RV forums see the owners experiences. I believe Newmar did a pretty good job but someone correct me if I'm wrong.

So far as I can figure out the blame is all over the place, fiberglass, paint, primer, poor prep work. Something is not clicking for me to be held holding the bag on my then 500,000 dollar coach. What's it worth when you want to sell it???? Where is the "big government" at to help the "people"? For a company to "go" bankrupt is a easy cop out for a big corporation when the blame lies in many places more than likely. Has anyone had a paint analysis done on their coach. If it is so wide spread in the industry why are we sitting like sheep here? Anyone?

What you'll find is the paint is fine, the Fiberglas is defective and will continue to emit gasses and crack I assume forever. I had Sherwin Williams inspect mine plus I took it to a reputable shop. If you don't replace the Fiberglas the paint job will be as-is. You should contact Tiffin and see where they stand on helping. Please report back and let us know. Many, many of us are in this same boat.
