2012 Aspire #1 AC (rooftop) issue

Hi all

I have a -2012 Aspire DEQ and the #1 AC will run for about 10-15 minute and then freeze up shutting down the AC. It will come back on in about 10-15 minutes. I checked for leaks and electric today and all looks good. The primary issue that I can find is the compressor freezing and shutting down. Any ideas?

Additionally, if I need to replace I’d like to replace with a quieter unit. The model is a Dometic 651816C85190. I noticed Dometic has a 641816C... low profile which is what I would prefer but I’m basically looking for a quieter AC. Do you know if this AC. An be replaced with an Airxcel or Colman Mach 8?

Thanks once again for all the help!!

This unit has a temperature probe that is embedded in the unit fins that lets the unit know when to shut down to defrost. That probe has come out so you need to push it back into the fins of the unit. Take off the cover of the unit that has a problem and one that does not so you can observe where the probe should go. Should just be a wire with a clip like end on it that just needs to be pushed into the fins. Had the same thing happen to me.

Hi Jeff,

Hopefully you will get your AC up and running.

If you do, while you're up on the roof, clean the coil (radiator looking part) with a can of spray coil cleaner.

It may be our imagination but our AC sounded quieter after we cleaned ours.

Thanks Ron

I found the probe and it was still stuck in the fins. I reset it but the unit still freezes. Researching price of new ACs now. Looks like $1200-$1500.

Jeff

Hi Stu

I cleaned the fins but it still freezes.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I'm just curious, Jeff, do you notice if the AC is any quieter?

Stu

Are you referring to the new AC or the current one. No on the current one and I’m having a new Dometic shipped for install next Saturday. I’ll let you know regarding the new AC after install. By the way should I keep the old one? I’m considering it for parts just in case. I’m also curious if it could be a bad sensor wire. I’ve seen that on some YouTube video.

Thanks again for all the help. I’ll post an after note once the install is complete.
