2013 Anthem Dash Air Vacuum Pump

Battery challenge resolved, so now on to the next one!
Got a list of them.

The vacuum pump for the dash AC constantly cycles even when the unit is turned off.

When I turn on the ac even to vent mode the pump stops cycling.

I've never seen this before, but this is our first Entegra so don't know if this is something normal. Our last two coach's were Newmar and never has this happen.

I just don't want to burn up a vac. pump and have to buy another one if this not something normal.

TIA,
Sam

I think you are referring to the engine AC compressor? If so, your AC needs to be charged. Post going on now regarding that

Not sure how your coach has it set up but the vacuum pump has a hose going to a small tank and then goes to the different valves. Sound like you have an air leak somewhere or a bad switch on the pump.

Good Morning Chuck
It's not the compressor. It's a small pump on the curbside of the coach in the generator compartment mounted on the firewall. When we first bought the coach and got it to a park for the night on our trip home we heard the sound so I went looking and found it. I had the wife turn on the key and it came on. I've noticed that it only cycles when the dash AC panel is turned on so the blower comes on. The dash AC works fine just this pump cycles.

Thanks,
Sam

Good Morning Jack

Thanks for the advice. I will start tracking down the hoses and the accumulator tank and make sure all are leak free.

Sam

Maybe this diagram will help you Sam......I believe when the vac pump fails, defrost position is default. since your dash AC vents are working with the control panel position, but the pump is cycling often could be a leak in the dash control its self........

Sounds like a vacuum leak somewhere, either a cracked hose or possibly a bad diaphragm inside one of the actuators. I would trace the hoses and reseat each one at the actuators first thing. Look for stiff cracked hose ends.

To test the pump /switch plug off the line coming out of the vacuum accumulator tank and turn ignition on. It should pump for a few seconds then turn off and stay off. If it cycles with nothing connected, there is something wrong with the pump or accumulator.

OK ; just to be sure I've got the issue straight in my mind , I'll have to ask questions .

When your driving with the dash A/C control in the off position ; the 12 volt vacuum pump runs constantly ; but when you turn the dash control to vent the vacuum pump stops .

If my understanding is correct , then the vacuum leak may be in the dash control or in one or more of the lines attached to it.
I'm assuming the dash unit is an Evans/Tempcon so here is a vacuum diagram .
With the leak apparently stopping when the control is in use , that eliminates most of the system as a source of the leak .
BTW. The 12 volt pump is common to Ford diesel P/Us and readily available at a much better price that Evans.

Good Morning Skip

You are correct with your understanding.
When we first purchased the coach we had a 6 hour drive back home so we just stayed the night in a RV park before heading home the next morning.
When we got to the park I turned the key on (engine off) to level the coach and that is when we first heard a cycling sound coming from the front end. Our past coach's were Newmar's and this is our first Entegra so we were not sure what the sound was. After We got settled in, I went searching for the sound. Knowing it was coming from the front end of the coach I opened the generator slide (which I DO NOT LIKE) to try to locate the sound and hopefully fix it before something breaks. Well I found a pump cycling. Had the wife turn the keys off and it stopped. Ok, It's just a vacuum pump for the AC so not a major event. I can worry about that back at the house. So worries were put to bed and so were we. It's exhausting inspecting, test driving, negotiating and writing checks for a coach!!
I will now start working on this issue with the advice and schematics from you and others from here. I'm one of those "Jacks of all Trades" I'm sure with this forum I will figure it out and Fix It!!
