2014 anthem

Tonight while cooking or trying to, my rig filled with smoke. The lights on the stove started flashing on and off. I quickly turned the breaker off and fans on. I cannot reach the junction box to see if that's where the smoke was coming from. Has anyone had this happen? Does the cook top just lift out of the opening? Thanks for any help.

Call Entegra ofter hours number 574-361-0034. if they don't answer, they will call you back this evening quickly. They are now 24X7. I offer that, as I haven't seen a similar post...maybe best to contact them. Good luck.

Yes, the cook top lifts out, it may have silicone adhesive so be careful when lifting it out.

I have only seen one Anthem (at the Atlanta show last year)that the cooktop would just lift out. When I retro fitted the induction top last year in my Anthem I broke the Kenyon top trying to undo the silicone. There are no screws holding it down. What finally worked for me, without further cracking is take a thin, flexible putty knife and push it into the silicone bead around the perimeter. Go slow. Don't try to lift the cooktop until you have entirely broken the silicone bead. The cooktop is hard wired to a junction box at back that is easily opened and disconnected. I originally tried a box cutter to cut the bead but the sharp edge quickly chipped the glass top

Well the problem is solved. There was a bad/loose connection in the junction box. Believe it or not Entegra had a service man in the area. Talk about lucky. All was fixed within a few hours. It could have been quite a disaster had they not put the cover on the box. Strangely, the smoke detector that goes off when ever I open the oven door, did not go off with the smoke. I was quite blessed last night. Today the front day shade won't work, but again, the service guy is in the area with a spare motor. Click image for larger version

Wow, that could have been a lot worse! Glad everything is fine, and really nice a service person in the area!

This probably deserves its own thread, but it relates to the service guy.

At the Owner Appreciation Dinner at the Super Show, Tadd Jenkins announced that Entegra would have two vans, one in Florida and one in Texas to handle issues. We weren't sure how the process would work so we asked Joyce to see if we could be worked in even though all our stuff was pretty minor. She said to expect a call.

Rod called last week and said he'd be in the park here in Port St. Lucie Tuesday and Wednesday to cover three coaches.

Wow. He got most of my stuff (Not the tile for example) as well as my friends stuff working Tuesday PM and Wednesday. Great guy He had the list I gave Joyce and I added a couple more.

We're beyond bowled over. This morning he said "I got an emergency call last night and had to fix a guy's cooktop." So Tony we feel connected in some way!

Several people in the CG were amazed and thought I had called for help and couldn't believe how the process had worked.

Now if I had just remembered to ask him to fix the missing screws that hold the fuel fill line in place.

Tonyd51,

That is the best news of the day! We are so happy for you. When we read your thread our hearts dropped. I hope that Rod will also look at your smoke detector while he is with you. Super news.

It is outstanding that Entegra has the roving service teams and speaks well to their desire to provide exemplary customer service.

I would have a concern/question about this particular case since I did work as an electrician's apprentice in my younger days. I am surprised that the connections got that hot without tripping a breaker. It can happen but I would have expected the breaker providing juice to that circuit to trip well before the wires/connections got hot enough to do the damage I see in that box. I also assume the OP is having Entegra look into why the smoke detector/s did not sound. I know our's beeps whenever we make toast.

In any case, glad you got it fixed and had no other issues.

The connection issue was a case of trying to connect stranded wire to solid. A task that requires a little experience. I think the breaker would have tripped if the problem was there for an extended period. This happened quickly. I just received an email from Joyce that stated she was ordering a new smoke detector.
