2015 Aspire and DEF head failures

My wife and I are in the "elderly" category. We have lived in our motor home since 2008. We are about to depart on one last trip from Dallas to Colorado to Washington to Oregon and back. We've done this many times.

Reading all the DEF failures has gotten me worried about this trip. Sure, we've had breakdowns in the past, but never anything really consequential. DEF head failures, on the other hand, are giving me great concern.

It seems that most failures occur on coaches newer than mine. But in one of the posts today, it seems my generation of coaches is starting to have many failures. Could those of you who have followed this issue closer than I have give any feedback if there is a pivot year when the failures started? I won't hold you to it, but it would help me to know.

2017 when the current rash started due to epa requirements changing.

John, the EPA regulation for the "new" DEF heads were for 2016 model years. Many of the 16's were built on 2015 chassis so the problems really didn't start until the 2017 year coaches unless a late 16 was built on a 2016 chassis.
The Classics, which takes in your 15 did not have the DEF sensors built into the heads. A few problem with the Classics were DEF heaters, etc. but nothing that would put it into de-rate like the current model problem. A de-rate is possible in a Classic, but highly unlikely, not enough that I would let it ruin a trip.
I have had 2 DEF head failures on both of my newer coaches and I still wouldn't let the problem DEF heads stop me from a trip.

Thanks, Chuck. I appreciate that info. Normally I don't have that many concerns, but much of my 2021 trip is in remote areas with secondary roads.

Kinda makes me wish I still had my 2009 Monaco, no DEF!

As said .. your coach is too old for def head problems
BUT
If I were you I would go have the scr campaign done on your coach..

It will derate you on the side of the road if it falls under the The correct perimeter..

I believe all 2013 to 2015 needs this..

My 2014 anthem did this to me on a trip and it was a nightmare…

Worth taking it to a Cummins dealer and just having it done

I just went through this with my 2015. You can't just go have it done. I was at Cummins and they checked and said my 2015 was not a part of the campaign. Call Cummins and provide them with your engine number and they will tell you if your coach is a part of the campaign or not.

John

Industrial Power in Mckinney replaced our SCR on our 2015 Aspire. I dropped her off in late afternoon they ordered the part and I picked her up the next afternoon.

Thanks, I'll check it out.

Found the engine number on the label by the driver seat and will give Cummins a call.

Our new neighbor works for a Cummins repair shop. He ran my engine serial # today and came up with this Recall. Says he will check on parts availability and let me know when available.

I had it done on my 2015 Anthem last month. Didn’t take long at all … couple hours after they got the part. Safe travels and enjoy your last trip.
