Welcome to irv2. You'll find that most not only have a surge protector but an EMS which protects against high and low voltage as well.

The transfer switch has a surge protector built into it. However, it is a one time use circuit. When it blows you buy a new transfer switch. Entegra reccomends that you use an add on surge protector. Either at the pedalstal or attached to the coach.
Welcome to the forum.

Don't leave home without it.
Another good protective device is some kind of Watts type water pressure regulator. I usually buy my stuff from Rick at RV Water Filter Store: Standard Filter Canisters for Whole RV

Absolutely get the PI EMS 50 either in a hatd wited ( my prefernce on ladt 3 coach's ) or the portable model. The PROGRESSIVE INDUSTRIES comes with a lifetime warranty unlike another brand ! You will be very happy you did.
Many of us just at the Tampa Super Show had high voltage ( 137 +/- ) issues from the vendors generators providing 30 amp power. They refused to accept our systems readings only to discover after 2 days a significant issue with their equipment that led to another generator being brought in and the high voltage issue was resolved. Without this protection many coach systems could have been damaged !

Plus one on Progressive Ind. I have the portable 50 amp, a couple of weeks ago it malfunctioned while at a CG in Fla. I called them and for $35 they sent a brand new unit to the CG and gave me 30 days to return the old one. They have a lifetime warranty. If I were home I could have returned the old one for a n/c replacement but in this case since we were on the the road for two more months I was happy to pay the $35.

The hardwired unit is just a printed circuit board to replace. PI sends out the new board Priority Mail and a prepaid return label for the old board at no charge except for a CC deposit they you will return the old board. Either one, the lifetime warranty service is great. Can't get that at Camping World after a year.
