2018 Anthem Wiper Trouble

We are the original owners of our 2018 44B Anthem....

Yesterday on our move East due to Hurricane Laura we had a Driver’s Side Windshield Wiper Issue.

While driving the Driver’s Side Windshield Wiper all of a sudden went back behind the Driver’s Side Mirror. We turned the wipers OFF and immediately pulled off the side of the road. After moving the DS Wiper back to its normal position we tried turning the wipers back on...

When turning the wipers back on the DS Wiper would only move up about a foot on the windshield then fall down to the painted section of the front cap towards the generator area.

So we continued on our Hurricane move with No working windshield wipers and thankfully when we got far enough east the rain let up on I 10.

What has happened and how do we fix?

It sounds like the center of the wiper arm is stripped. You can try removing the arm, clean the groves on the shaft with a light wire brush. Install the wiper arm and torque to 65 ft pound. Wait an hour and re-torque again. If the groves are gone in the wiper arm it will need to be replaced.

BroBox don’t know what we would do without your help!

As you know, we are NOT real DIY people so when hubby gets thru working today how do we go about removing the wiper? And possibly reinstalling new wiper. We assume without looking yet (pouring rain here right now in FL panhandle) we will access the removal area by opening generator ? Or can we do this on the outside?

Thank you again and Congratulations on the new 21 Cornerstone!

Thank you on the congrats. There will be a cover covering the nut on the wiper shaft. If you look just below the windshield from the side, you will see where that shaft comes into the wiper arm. Remove that cover to get to the nut, it will be on the outside. If it's loose, that is the problem, they are suppose to be at 65 lbs of torque. Hopefully it's not bad, the arms are a little hard to find.
I remember that you guys aren't mechanical and why I didn't go into field fixes using thin wire solder However, it sometimes works to wrap a couple thin wire solder wraps around the shaft. pushing it as flat as you can. Then tap the wiper arm back on with a rubber mallet and torque to specs.

Reminds me to re-torque the 21 wiper arms....thanks.

Thank you. Old poor boy trick when we couldn't afford to replace wiper arms and they were made a lot better then.. It still works on new MH's May not last forever with the longer wiper blades as it did with 12 inch blades back in the 60's.

A couple layers of tin foil can accomplish the same thing if you have some tin foil laying around.
