2018 Cornerstone 45Y First Impressions
We started acceptance of our new coach Thursday morning at NIRVC
Lawrenceville. Went through interior items for a couple hours, took a lunch break then road along as the delivery tech pulled it out of the building and to our parking spot. Several more hours of exterior items and we all needed to call it a day. Somewhere in there we signed for it. The tech came back Friday, answered a mountain of questions and went along for our test drive followed by hands on instruction on the macerator system. More of all the same Saturday and resolution of a few minor items. We got periodic visits from the GM, Service Manager, Floor Manager and others making sure we were happy with our coach and how we were being taken care of. Some woman named Angie and a man named Brett called or texted numerous times a day to see how things were going. They tried to persuade us to stay longer to make sure we were comfortable and everything worked to our satisfaction but Robin had an appointment she had to get home to. We also felt we were at a point to learn more on the road. Amazing delivery process! Nothing like the acceptance of our previous 2 coaches which took about 2 hours each.
We departed Sunday AM. A few miles down the road we realized the GPS was silent. All the managers had given me their cell phone numbers so we texted the Service Manager who immediately called me back and walked us through getting Samantha to talk. A little later “DPF REGEN ACTIVE” appeared, another text to Stephen, another immediate response to tell us what that meant and that is was information, not a discrepancy. Later realized our cell phone would listen but wouldn’t talk. Another text/call then conversation with another manager. Justin walked us through several checks before we concluded an issue with the coach microphone. All those issues could not be found in a normal acceptance process. Brett and I talked on the road several times about routes, where to get best deals on fuel, parks along the way home, impression of the coach, etc.
We loved our 2014 Anthem, were very pleased with the quiet, the ride and the drivability. A lot changes with 4 years of advancements and a level step-up result in an amazing coach. Absolutely no wind noise at interstate cruise speeds and extremely smooth ride. Steering was a little different, but still a 2-finger guide. The 155HP and 700ft lb torque increase is very noticeable, I set my cruise control at 63 and didn’t go below 61 on the rolling hills of Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi without having to push the gas pedal. We will be northwest in a couple weeks and will see what it does on 6-7% grades! I’m a little on the fence about the adaptive cruise control with Collision Mitigation and lane departure. It can surprise you when someone zips across your path at a slower speed. With about 850 miles now I am getting used to it and think I like it. Didn’t notice the lane departure system.
We planned to drive about 330 miles the second day but when we got close to our destination decided we had lots of energy and it was early so drove on driving 444 miles!
Setup in a park was similar to the Anthem. We used the jacks to level rather than the Hadley out of habit. First experience with a Trav’ler isn’t worth mentioning but we are pleased.
GPS has been relocated so there was no overheating issue.
Vegatouch. Still a treasure hunt to find what we want. Robin is the family Vegatouch SME (Subject Matter Expert). We put the app on both our iPads but still tend to use AV remotes. We will learn it eventually.
Sorry about the babble and ramble but I wanted to share.

Vance, unless they've changed from 2017 you don't have lane departure warning.

Nice report Vance, thank you for sharing. It would be a chore to drive my current coach 444 miles, very impressive. I would say there is a big difference in the seats.

The delivery tech said we had lane departure. We tried to test it on the test drive, couldn’t tell. Seems we couldn’t tell because it isn’t there.

I did some additional research and confirmed no lane departure without Mobile Eye which I had on our Anthem and was almost an annoyance. Our new coach does have blind side monitoring/avoidance/warning which is great! Not only does a subtle light appear in the warning side mirror but a red light also appears on the dash. We have so much blind area on our sides I feel this is a very useful safety tool!

Vance,
Great delivery report. NIRVC sure sets a fantastic level of how a pdi should be done. Enjoy the drive.
