2018 Zone 1 temperature sensor

I just now discovered that the Zone 1 temperature sensor is still mounted flush to the pillar behind the entry door. CS suggested 4 years ago to add standoff’s to get it away from the heat of the body. Techs offered to do it for me during my PDI. I did it in my Anthem and it made a world of difference.

I found it when I wondered why Zone 1 is still running and the coach is cool. We’re parked facing west.

Hard to believe they are still making that mistake in mounting the temperature sensor. That has been a known problem on all models of the coach since at least 2014 or 2013. Virtually all of us owners have made that modification over the years and it has really helped the operation of the front AC unit. As someone would tweet............. "SAD"

The operator that mounted those sensors back in 2013 finally made it thru the entire line job rotation and is back at the job he had 7 years ago. And he is doing the job the same way he did it then.

Until Entegra puts detailed job instructions on each assembly job, enforces them, designs and supplies templates for standardization, etc. this will just continue. If the problem was identified in 2013 then why wasn't the sensor design changed to error proof its installation? A complete failure in error-proofing enginering. The design has to be such that error proofing is built in.

This and the other post on air intake discrepancies are the pitiful evidence that there is no real effort at standardizing jobs and procedures at Entegra. Each coach is built however the person doing that job that day thinks it should be done. Chaos.

Every one of these coaches is a unique animal and he buyer is the beta tester for that particular combination of build factors. Unbelievable the coach builders stay in business and manage to charge so much for these beauties........

I tried the standoffs under the temperature sensor but I still had several degrees of offset between the thermostat and the actual room temperature. This was a function of how much sun was on the door side of the coach which meant constant thermostat changes. I relocated located the temperature sensor to the ceiling next to the return air duct so that room air passes by the temperature sensor. Now works great!

Why didn't Entegra do that?

It looks like somethings will never change. They were still leaving the antenna wire for the slide remotes coiled up inside of the controller box in 2017. Entegra needs to pay attention to the long time complaints as there is one possible new coach purchaser that doesn't want to play the mod games all over again. Sell me a coach that is ready to go or I will keep the one that has had all the mods completed.

I started the use of the standoffs back in 2014. I have transferred them to each Entegra including the 2017 and have never had over a one degree variance on temperature unless it was so hot that a/c couldn't keep up. I've actually solved that problem by blocking the ducts to make the rear a/c cool the back and 1&2 cool the front. Common outlet ducts don't work very well when back of mh is easy to cool and front is harder.
I told Entegra about the standoffs and putting 10 inch outlets up front, instead of 8 inch, but they never started it. I made the 10 inch outlets part of the deal on out 2017 and put them in myself on the other years we've had. Helps airflow up front, but seems to be too big of a hurdle for Entegra.

Does anyone have a photo of your standoff installation? Would love to see it. Thanks.

Great idea ! I'm assuming the sensor isn't wireless, so how did you move it from the wall to the ceiling return duct?

2018 Zone 1 temperature sensor

I took a high-tech approach to the standoff in my 2014. I have 2 dogs so go through poop bags regularly, I saved the black plastic spool, cut it in half, got some 2” screws and had a 1” standoff. We saw a significant improvement in the match of thermostat and actual room temperature.

Great minds really do think alike. That is exactly what I used. I found them to be a little brittle and hard to cut. Cracked my first try. Got out the dremel tool with a cutting disk and zipped right thru the next one.
