4 wheel alignment issues

Arrived at Josams alignment shop today for an alignment. Since day one the alignment has been off and noticeably so. What I found odd, was that at times the wheel would center itself at 9 and 3 and other times it would settle at 10 and 4. Initially when I first get on the road it would pull to one side or the other. Once they got under the coach they discovered the right from shock mount was missing two bolts and had sheared the other two. The shock is just hanging.

I honestly never noticed this so I am going to assume it';s been this way since day 1??? If so, I have been driving like this for 6,000 miles. Never heard anything remotely concerning.

Adding to this Barry placed a call to spartan with the steering symptoms. They said the steering box is loose. Parts are being overnighted.

So this trip has cause a myriad of minutia type issues and now three big ones. The front AC is toast and these two new wonderful issues.

Let's go Rving they said. It'll be fun they said............

Maybe you and Chuck should consider traveling together...

Bruce, I am sorry to hear that Spartan gave you one of my chassis. It is strange how Spartan items seems to break at alignment shops.

I am confident that Josams will resolve the issues. Just disappointed in the issues at hand.

I'd be scheduling a Chassis Inspection and annual service at Spartan in Charlotte with a followup visit to Middlebury for all the other stuff that will crop up.

You are at an excellent shop to catch how a few chassis leave Spartan. I paid a few dollars extra at FL Spring and Axel to have them do a chassis inspection on the 21. They did find one item and a oil leak that Cummins addressed when they replaced the bad DEF sensor.
I am a firm believer that all new coaches need to have the front end aligned. Might as well spend the $35 for a chassis inspection, that included a lubing the chassis, while the experts have it on the rack. They are trained on what to look for. Josams probably didn't charge for the items they found, but will have a nice payday compliments of Spartan.
BTW my chassis fitting were almost dry.

Have you sent that picture to Spartan? I gotta believe they would be freaked out by it!

So, no one forgot to tighten anything down.... they just used mounting bolts that were way, way, way too small to handle the loads?

Am I seeing this picture correctly? Half the bolts are sheared off?

Gary

I am not even seeing bolts in the front hole (right side of pic) hopefully they fell out and were at some point present....
Note to self get another chassis inspection/service done....

Two fell out, 2 sheared. No telling what the cause was. Could be a myriad of things.

I will have Josams do a full inspection and chassis lube. Parts are due in today, but I have not heard from Barry yet.

from a mechanic point of view, those four bolts look to be 5/16, maybe 3/8 maybe in diameter expected to hold the stress of the shock, especially combing a shear load and a stretch load at the same time ? the shock bolt is what 3/4 or bigger
weird design, one would think the plate would be on the top side of the A arm and let the arm carry the load better.

thanks for sharing
