45B Driver's side, big slide - motor surging?

Greetings All,
We are still getting used to our new to us 2017 45B. The big slide (fireplace, dinette, fridge) on the driver's side has started surging going in or out. Every second or so the motor almost sounds like it is about to quit, but then starts right back up again. I don't know how to describe it other than the motor seems to be surging. I looked in the basement and nothing seems to be interfering with the slide movement. Is this common? Is the motor on the way out? I ran it in and out several times yesterday and it works every time. It just sounds like it's not long for this world.

Thanks,
Adam

Remove the cover over the motor hand check all the mounting bolts. The do come loose and and will cause symptoms you are experiencing. After the bolts are tight take the remote while laying they and run the slide, any gear or bear noise?

Thanks for the info Chuck! What size wrench, socket do I need for the motor bolts? I want to take what tools I need over with me. I still haven't put together a dedicated tool kit for the coach yet. I need to do that asap...

Thanks again,
Adam

Either 1/2 in or 9/16, it's been awhile since I have checked mine. It will be a 5/16 nut driver or phillips head for the sheet metal cover. If it is still hesitating, put your hand on the gear box while the slide is running. You might be able to feel the gear missing if it has broken teeth. Hopefully just a loose motor bouncing around. Blue loc tite helps keep the motor tight, but still need to be checked annually depending on how much the slides are used.

Also take a look at your house battery charge. I have had similar bogging of the motor because I forgot to change the charging amps from 5amps back to 30amps.

Update: My slide motor is completely exposed (not underneath a cover) on the first slide door ceiling. I did tighten the 4 bolts holding the bracket to the ceiling of the basement as well as the 4 bolts holding the motor to the bracket. They were pretty tight already. No change in symptoms. I then followed the square drive shafts leaving both sides of the motor to two covers on either side of the basement compartment ceiling. Pulled those covers off and observed the gears working the tracks back and forth and everything looked fine.

I did not see Chuck's post about the charging amps until this morning. I know for sure the last time I touched that part of the Vegatouch I did lower the amps down so I could run the coach at the house on a 15 amp circuit. I totally forgot to put it back to 50 amps when I took the coach back to NIRVC for storage. I am going to stop back by the coach today an set the Vegatouch back to 50 amps. Fingers crossed...

That was Herb's post about the charged batteries and he is correct. If the coach is plugged in to keep the batteries charges, the input amps will not make a difference, it's the output amps of the batteries. If they are fully charged, the slide motors will be receiving the amps from the batteries as the motors are 12v. Check the Vegatouch to see what charge rate your batteries are. You could also start the generator, let it run for a few minutes and see if there is a difference.
If the slide is still surging after it has made the up hill climb, batteries fully charged, gears, motor and bearing all feel good while traveling, last thing left is a slide controller, but rare for it to act like that. The older controller had a thrust adjustment, but I don't think the new ones do. Thanks for the update.

Could it be a bad motor?

All the slide motors are the same. You could swap one from another slideout to see if it makes any difference.

Big slide

We have a 2015 Aspire has a similar problem but ours goes out okay until it get to what they call the slide then it lopes. Slows down then speeds up all the while lurching. They said this is normal at the factory so we never had anything done to it. It comes in like a normal slide.
I have some time next week so will tighten the bolts when I get some lock tight. B.

I'm not sure that holds true for the 17's and up. Best to check the part numbers before you switch them out.

Update 2: The amps were set at 50 when I checked the panel today. Someone at NIRVC must have set it back to 50. Someone mentioned above that the motor surging sound may be normal? If it supposed to sound like that, I will just drop it. It’s the only slide in the coach that struggles with the surging sound, but it’s also the largest and heaviest.

Ours has done that since new. Our dealer and the factory told us it was normal. There is a steep ramp on that slide.

At least if the slide motor does start to go bad, you'll know what to check. The search bar is a great tool to learn your new coach with. Start with typing in Entegra follow by subject. The answers will be related to Entegra first.

My 18 does it also. I think it's just the weight of that slide. I bring that one in part way then let that motor rest while I put the other slides in, then finish bringing it in. Dont really know if it helps the motor any, but it seems to be working way harder than the rest of the motors.
