A GEN 6 Def Head just failed.

I just had a call from Noel that his 2020 Cornerstone that had a Gen 6 DEF head installed from the factory just failed. He is now waiting for a replacement to be sent. The Good news, Spartan is no long requiring Cummins to be the repair facility as they did on mine. The bad news, a Gen 6 did fail, they don't seem to be the magic fix as thought.

Chuck,

That is not good news, it is not an easy traveling with an underlying feeling. I know that I have said this before in a post. There has to be a system similar to this one out there, too many vehicles experiencing issues.

Good Grief ..... that is NOT good news. Hopefully there is some explanation other than the continuation of the problem.

Yes, Noel knows those at Spartan quite well. He called one of the top brass and had it checked with his serial number to find it was a Gen 6 installed. He told me who to call when the DEF head on my 21 failed. His chassis was built 6/19, mine 11/19, but luck of the draw I received a 5. When I talked to that person at Spartan, they had some Gen 6's fail, "but not as many" was what I was told.

I am sorry to hear the Gen 6's are not the magic bullet we thought they were, hopefully not as bad as the Gen 5's.

Really sounds like our classic "radiator" problems, but worse. At least with our multiple radiators, if you paid attention to it and kept adding fluid, you could keep moving.

I guess that eliminates any confidence in my new gen 6 unit.
I wonder why the mfg of these motorhomes are not required to add a notice of this issue in their advertising. We are paying $100s of thousands for a motorhome and getting flower planter.

All the more reason to carry a spare. Quick replacement roadside and you’re off and running.

I really enjoy being prepared so I don’t have to stress about a def failure. I want to enjoy the trip and just stress about other things..lol

Are we hearing that you need to have a scan tool that has the ability to clear codes if replacing DEF head. Some have replaced their DEF head and had the codes clear after a period of time but were able to operate their coach after replacement.
