AC filters in ceiling?

Has Entegra changed the way the AC filters have to be removed, or has anyone come up with a better solution to remove and reinstall the filters? Thanks

After removing mine once, I've just been vacuuming mine out in situ. This is probably the most disappointing aspect of the coach. I just don't trust removing and replacing those screws. There's not much substance in that ceiling. I'd hate to end up with just holes in the ceiling when there's nothing left to screw the vent to.

Thanks for the reply. The vac trick may work for a while, but the filters will still need to be removed and washed at times. I can't believe someone, or Entegra, hasn't come up with a quick and easy way to remove and replace the filters. Like you I think the screws, in and out a few times, will not last long. Then what? Thanks again.

I totally agree. Someone suggested trying Velcro.

When I had Fantastic Fans (in my previous coach), it took six or eight screws to remove the screens for cleaning. Then they came up with an inexpensive screen replacement that just popped in and out with no tools. Great company.

The screws are square bits as was discussed on another thread. I removed mine using a variable speed screwdriver and (I think) #2 square - NOT Phillips - bits. It seemed to work fine and the driver I used was sensitive enough that the screws came out and went in with no evidence of stripping.

I understand the concern, but maybeit was the bit or the driver, but I think I'm OK for now.

My main concern is the same as dlovitt. How many times can the screws be R&R before the holes won't hold the screws any longer, then what do you do?

Fill the holes with epoxy and re-drill?

I may insert and hot glue a couple small pieces of plywood or plain wood and pre drill them for screw size. as my screws have to be at a angle already to hit insulation sheet

I should have been clearer. I realize that eventually there may be an issue, but the driver I used applied very little pressure so maybe that will help the grip last a bit longer.

FWIW I've had success with stripped holes with a toothpick and wood glue.

Our Fleetwood required screws to clean the filters, they were stripped when we bought the coach.

I bought these: Catalog - Category Navigation

You find similar items at Ace, Lowe's, Home Depot etc...

No more worry about screws not holding.

The other thing you can do: With the filter removed, replace the screw with a flat washer and a counter sunk flat head screw. Then on the filter housing, at the screw hole fasten a magnet. With rare earth magnets available finding one strong enough shouldn't be a problem.

what I mean is there is nothing to grab at all but a sheet of insulation and 4 registers don't line up so I have to angle the screws that's how it was from factory

I wonder if there is an easy way to glue nuts in there and then use machine screws?
