ACC switched wire

I am looking for an ACC wire in the dash to hook up my Garmin dashcam too. In other words a switched line that is energized only when ignition is in accessory or run position. Any ideas?

Sadly, I manually plug my Garmin into the dash cigarette lighter plug each morning I am traveling and unplug each evening.... I have simply been too busy repairing a list of things more important at my sticks and bricks and the coach, so a dashcam that turns itself on and off is definitely number 76 on my list of 100 most important things that need fixed (with a higher priority) than number 76.... but when you figure it out, please publish the result and let me know, which might move it up higher on the list....

Should actually not be real hard since almost all of the dash and the video system is in all likelihoood switched 12 volt DC powered so look at any of the devices that turn themselves on and off and that would probably be a place to pick up your power.

When I saw the abbreviation ACC in your title, it gave me nightmares... (adaptive cruise control)

Good luck

Gary

I have a Garmin dash cam as well and for the on/off 12V source, I used the power input for the fan motor underneath the dash. There is no power draw from this connection and the hot line for the fan motor is only energized when the key is on (or push button pressed).

I cannot remember which one I used, but if you look under the dash from the driver's foot well area, you will see a four wire plug that goes into the fan box. Use volt/ohmmeter to find the 12v source you need. If not, I can send a few photos later when I get home.

Check your cigarette lighter plug. Many of these have power only when in ACC position.

It's hot all the time on my Anthem, which is why I had to search for another source.

You didn't say what year or model coach but most models have the DOT required relay to kill the front TV power when the ignition is on (virtually everyone removes it). It is in the overhead front cabinet on the passenger side on my '17. The low voltage wires that feed that box are active with ignition on. I used those since my camera is mounted high on the windshield.

For a source near the lower dash, I'd probably go with the Trimark box for the security system. On my coach it's under the removable cover in the dash passenger side. The Trimark is fed by both constant and ignition power. The Trimark manual can tell you which connector pin is the ignition wire.
You should check the fuse rating for that circuit and make sure your dashcam will not overload it.

For my Garmin camera, there were 3 wires. Hot, ground and a sensing wire that turns the camera on when the accessories energized. The draw was minimal as it was only sensing the 12V to power up the camera.
