Are you sure it was VHB? There are other 3M double sided tapes.

Some one told me years ago to use clear silicone for a very similar project, believe it or not I cleaned everything and applied the silicone, assembled the part to the glass, left it alone for a day and it held till I sold the boat. The part was a metal aluminum handle used to slide the window open or closed.

I just finished securing my bathroom window with 3m vhb and it seems very secure. Trouble is, it a two person job. Someone needs to be inside to help make sure it is square. I tried to fix on my own and fd it up. Now I need to remove it all and start from scratch. Oh well, you win some and lose some.

Bill, using the recommended 3M window weld or #08609 is ultimately the correct fix. Ive done all three small crank out windows. A small bead and some clamps. Removing the window is another matter but doable. I followed Cruzers repair method and have had no issues. Ive got some clouding on my drivers toll window which is fixed in place. I can live with it.
