Advise on Replacing Driver Side Shade Motors

Hey guys, has anyone found a way to get at and replace these motors that doesn’t make you want to scream. The front shades are held in place by a bracket with 3 sets of two screws. I can’t locate those on the driver’s side shades. Do you remove the wood valence first? Any other tips appreciated!

The screws for the bracket are there. The screws in the far corner of the windshield take a 6 in #2 square drive bit to get to them. A 4 inch bit with an extension will work.

I loosened the screws nearest the side window (left side), then looped a long tie wrap around the shade near the middle of the windshield. Then I removed the other screws, which allowed the shade to drop down about 6". That gave me enough access to remove the bracket from the shade itself, and then pull out and replace the motor. Reverse the procedure to re-install the shade.

It's been a while, but I think I had to modify the bracket to accept the new motor drive shaft. It couldn't have been a big deal or I would have remembered doing it. Just be aware you may have to mess with the bracket a bit depending on what motor you have and what motor you are replacing it with.

If you need programming instructions I have them somewhere, let me know and I will find them for you.
