AGM house batteries - expected life
Hello all. I know this depends on use/maintenance/abuse etc. but generally how long is it expected the Discover AGM house batteries will last. We started using our coach 2011 and I am now finding the house batteries will run down over a 12-14 hour ferry ride and we will have no power to the refrigerator etc. This was not the case 5 years ago. So is 5-6 years a reasonable time frame to expect to need to replace?
Thanks for all advice,

AGM battery manufacturers rate their battery's lifespan according to the number and depth of discharges. The depth of discharge (DOD) chart for the discovery batteries in your coach (assuming Entegra was putting the same batteries in their coaches in 2012) can be found here:
Product SearchÂ*|Â*Discover Energy Corp.
along with other good info.
So if you routinely discharge your batteries to 80% of their capacity, you should get 2900 charge/discharge cycles from them, at 50% DOD you should get around 1000 cycles, and at 80% DOD you should get around 500 cycles from them.
The problem with that information is that it is informative without really answering your question, because nobody is that consistent with how they charge and discharge their batteries.
Based on experience and research (reading), I would say (subjectively) that if you get five years from a set of batteries, that's probably about normal for a well treated set of batteries. Less than that and I would say there is a problem that you need to address. Eight years, IMO, is exceptionally good service.
There are differences in quality of batteries between manufacturers as well, which can affect battery life and usability.

I would agree with five years, give or take, as being a point to start budgeting for new batteries - if they have been well maintained and not abused. Abuse can quickly kill batteries. Proper maintenance and a quality charger are life extenders and make for improved usability.

My local battery guy says that you can expect 5 - 7 years out of a set of AGM batteries depending on usage. I rarely dry camp and the only time I really am using the batteries without being plugged in is when I stop in a rest area for lunch. A little microwave usage and the Keurig coffee maker. Probably going to see the higher end of life expectancy using this way.

My last coach had 7 year old Lifeline batteries when I traded it in. At that time the batteries were still stong. I always kept the coach plugged in when not using.

Thanks for all this good information guys. I think I will go ahead and replace them. There are 8 Discover AGM batteries so I think they are same as being used on current models but will verify.

If you're going to replace them, and are planning to keep the coach, consider spending the extra money on Lifeline brand batteries. Superior construction means longer life and deeper discharge without shortened life, ability to equalize, etc.

The link posted earlier for the Discover AGM batteries is not for the ones installed in the Anthem and Cornerstone. That one is for 220AH batteries and Entegra installs the 207AH batteries. Everything else is much the same between the two charts.
Here is the link to what Entegra installs for AGM's

Thanks 757. I assume mine are the EVGC6A-B but I pulled out the tray and can't locate a code anywhere that is easily viewed.

Rubicon. If I upgraded would that mean that I would have to change some settings somewhere or would everything be identical? Where I am located there is not a lot of technical expertise and I have none myself.

When we bought our rig last year one of the 8D AGMS was bulging. So that made them 6 years old. I wasn't happy with that as I got 10 years out of wet cell GC-2's in the last rig.
Now saving up for new Lifeline AGM's.

That's correct. Fortunately your Magnum controller has a profile in it specifically for Lifelines so it is very easy to change. I'd be happy to talk you through it.
Joke is on me...I spent several hours looking through manuals and deciding on a custom profile for the Lifelines...the last sentence I read was that there is already a pre-set profile for the Lifelines in the Magnum...very easy.
