air conditioning zone settings

Looked for a past thread but no luck so just wondered what are people doing to optimize cooling in their coaches. Wondered temperature setting by zone. do you put all zones on at the same temperature or do you have different settings for each zone?

All the same. Its easiest, as you simply set the left most zone (rear) and touch the circular arrows icon at the top and it duplicates the temp setting to all the other interior areas.

All AC units feed into the same ductwork and therefore are cooling their own area most but also pumping cool air into all the other zones in addition, so in my opinion, simple get all them working toward the same goal.

Not sure where the front sensor is located in the new rigs, but the front seems to run longer if the sensor is located in the upper wood trim around the passenger window and door toward the rear.

The heat from outside caused the sensor to see the incorrect temp inside the coach and the unit runs longer trying to cool, and I followed others suggestion to extend the sensor out about an inch or less and seal up the hole behind it, and the unit cools to the correct temps.

I set all the temps to the same. I actually blocked my air ducts about my mid bath so that the rear AC is isolated on to the rear bedroom and bath, and at night we can run the rear unit cooler, (closing the door to the bed room) and leave the fronts set higher during the night so the don't run as much - works good for us.

To optimize cooling....a windshield sun screen is the first place to start when the temptresses warm up.

Moving the front temperature sensor way from the wall is also a big hel.p The way it is monted from the factory it si reading the out side temperature. The sensor is above the passengers chair. Photo shows sensor moved from wall. https://www.irv2.com/forums/f278/aqu...ml#post2361158

Adding on this, Rollin's mod of blocking off the rear zone(s) using dense foam helps also. That way you can truly isolate a zone and prevent parasitic cooling. I did this in my last two coaches.

totally need to move the front sensor out. We have a thermometer in the coach and the front reads 74 at the thermometer and 84 at the vega touch. when you cut off the rear zone do you just open the vent near mid bath and put foam in from that location? thanks

The front mod was also Rollin's from way back as mentioned in the linked post. He deserves a lot of credit for making many peoples coaches more comfortable.

My Y floor plan has front/midship and bedroom zones. The thermostat for the br is located next to the bed and also supplies the bathroom which sits in front of the br. So in my case I opened the rear most mid ship supply vents and blocked off behind them with foam. Now the BR cools the BR and bath. There is no supply communication between mid ship and br. Neither will supply the other. I just close off the bathroom door.

I don't understand what real difference blocking off the common air duct to isolate the rear AC from the front and middle AC accomplishes. What does that accomplish that is important?

If you want, lets say 78 degrees in the coach, what does it matter that all of that cooling is produced by which unit.... 78 is 78. Now, if you want your bedroom at 70 and the rest of the rest of the coach at 78, that is starting to make some sense, but that logic is rarely mentioned.

Help me understand how segmenting the air ducts improves anything.

Gary - you are correct, the front part of the coach can be 78 or higher, and we like the bedroom set at 70, and the DW gets up early and does not freeze or have to run the fireplace in the summer...

Seems like a waste of energy and wear and tear on the center and front units to keep the whole coach at 70 during the night - on very humid mornings, you can see the frame of the motorhome on the outside from condensation

It allows me to keep the BR at 70 without parasitic draw to the LR. I set my LR and BR temps accordingly and close the BR and or bathroom doors closed. That way the AC in the BR is working less, not harder to maintain temp. The reverse is true during the day as we allow the BR temps to go higher while keeping the LR temps lower.

Now I get what you are saying with closing the common plenum off and why.

We tend to leave all our interior doors open when parked except the half bath door. I like the airflow and ease of movement. But we often camp in milder weather where the HVAC do not run non stop. I try to force the middle unit to do all the work on a mild night so it gets some usage.
