I suspect the coupling lock was not fully engaged and male end was blown out. While driving the male end was knocked off the hose. Mine get sticky at times and the lock sleeve does not fully slide into position. I now lubricate and double check every time as mine popped free once.

I spray some Boeshield T-9 on the sliding lock ring. Works like new once lubricated.

Common silicone spray works fine.
