Three US boarder crossing guards guiding me out of secondary. When I heard the scrape they said "just keep coming it is only your tailpipe touching the curb".

Our storage facility forgot to shut the rear chassis door and it hit a cement wall. Nice little scratch - It was a few weeks after we purchased it. Thankfully the storage facility has lots of motorhome specialists that work on coaches right there. They did an amazing job and used the same exact paint - you can't tell that it was touched (they paid for it)

I had a similar "accident" two years ago. I was pulling out of a camp site and didn't notice the tree stump on the right side. It scratched the side and dinged the panel covering the radiator. I filed a claim with Progressive. The adjuster came out and estimated $10,000 in damage... I was shocked but pleasantly surprised to find out I had 0 deductible. I hadn't had any claims with Progressive and didn't know I had the "disappearing deductible" clause. On the bright side, I had one of the "old" radiators that I was going to have to replace at some time anyway but it was replaced with the newer one due to the accident. My Progressive insurance is $1400/yr and I've had them for 10 years so they're still ahead of the game. Another surprise is that my premiums didn't increase. Go figure.

You did a nice job of cleaning it up...

I have one of those on mine as well. The other side though. Most buffed out leaving a little dent in the storage door. No worries.

In the first instance, I had good excuses. It was our first motorhome, I had pretty much zero experience, and it was a gas coach with a LOT of overhang behind the rear tires. The guys at the selling dealership warned me about the rear overhang and advised hugging the inside of any given turn. I did that so well I scraped the driverís side of the coach making a left turn out of our own driveway. Go figure.

The second incident was considerably more embarrassing, in that we had sold the coach, paperwork had been done, payment received, insurance canceled, etc. The people who bought it werenít going anywhere right away and asked if they could delay picking it up for a couple of weeks. Being the nice guy I am (or at least claim to be), I said sure.

As the turnover date drew near, I noticed the fuel tank was only about half full. I decided to be an even nicer guy and fill it up for them. (You know where this is going, right?) Drove very carefully (remember, no insurance) to a large gas station only a few miles from our house Ė one weíve used to fuel our motorhomes for years.

When I arrived the place was a bit crowded, but the row of pumps I always use was open. I had to make a relatively tight turn to pull alongside that familiar row of pumps, but having done it dozens of times I knew I could do it in my sleep. Apparently I did exactly that, because I clipped a vertical post with the tail end of the coach on the passenger side.

So I got to drive it to a local body shop, pay them to make it all better, and drive it back home, all with no insurance. Yeah, I thought about reinstating the insurance, but I wasnít going to file a claim anyway and wasnít really in the mood to answer any questions regarding why I needed a reinstatement.

Short version Ė Been there, done that, feel your pain. If youíre blessed with a long life, youíll reach a point where you can laugh about it.

I have not repaired my wet bay damage for the very reason it reminds me to be careful. Kind of like a merit badge....

Tom, I like your thinking!

Kinda like the hard-core off-road guys here in the southwest, who make it a point to get some "desert pin-striping" on any new Jeep by driving it through some brushy areas. The theory being that after the first scratch or two the rest are no big deal. Plus, if your Jeep is too pretty you have no street cred at all.

Aww heck, I did $1700 in paint damage and tree branch scrapes my first year. Two more months and I'll have made it through year 2 with no new scrapes. (just hope I didn't just jinx myself)
Glad OP was able to repair the worst of the damage himself!

I hear that the paint and body work area of NIRVC is doing booming business and the backlog to get body and paint work is a Looooooong wait.

Must be all those first-time RV owners. Couldn't possibly be any of us with years of experience. If you don't believe that, just read my post earlier in this thread:

Body damage?

I can proudly declare that I haven't done that once in more that 100,000 miles!

No, sir.

Not once.

And, that's the truth.

Take care,
Stu

More than once?

Well, that's a whole other story that I'll share over a glass of bourbon.

Take care,
Stu
