Annual Maintenance!

I still do most of my own maintenance and like to spread tasks out so that it doesn’t all pile on at the same time on the calendar. My local O’Reilly’s surprised me yesterday by quickly cross-referencing OEM numbers and having all three of these in stock!

FYI Napa also sells WIX filters but labeled under their name. So if you choose to buy from Napa, drip the first number. In other words, your 46449 filter sold by Napa will be a 6449. WIX has been making Napa filters for years. The only difference is the part number and labeling.

Personally I prefer OEM filters. You don't save much on a very critical item or at least not enough to worry about plus you have one less thing to worry about if you have a warranty claim.

I have not been to a NAPA in years. Unfortunately all of the chain store parts places (O’Relly, Autozone, etc.) have pretty much driven NAPA into obscurity around here. My nearest NAPA is 20 miles away. O’Reilly is just down the road from me.

All the OEM filters are as close as your computer or smart phone.. Almost always, I try to use OEM filters.

Also, most maintenance items you need for most vintages of Entegra coaches are listed and cross referenced in the "sticky" up at the top of this forum No need to rediscover the wheel....

I agree that OEM is usually the safest choice. There are many other good choices also. I have used WIX filters for many years on many many different vehicles from tractors to supercharged Corvettes. There isn’t really much price difference in WIX from OEM. All a matter of convenience for me...I looked at today’s forecast, knew O’Reilly’s was open into the evening, they had all three filters in stock and one final stop for 6 quarts of Rotella and it will all be history by lunchtime today.

Oh and I used the decal on the genset for filter part numbers

Yea, you cant get much better than OEM specified parts and numbers.

Mr D's point is one I will second.... It is very hard for Cummins to criticize or raise questions on any repair if the filters they find on there are their own.... then the only issue is how long they have been there, and the purchase receipts are the answer to that issue.....

I still marvel at those who thoroughly believe that you must have OEM filters on an engine to avert a warranty issue. This is what the manufacturer of the engine WANTS you to believe and it's NOT TRUE.
It's been proven in court that all that is necessary is a product that meets or exceeds the quality of the OEM piece.

I'm a big fan of WIX filters and know that they WAY exceed any Fleetguard product so keep using them with confidence and should a warranty issue arise, don't be concerned because as mentioned they exceed OEM products

X2 and Baldwin since 2002 in DP'ers. Several videos online comparing WIX filters to other filters. Might even be an OEM filter it there. People are free to use what ever they like in their equipment, I happen to prefer WIX from the test I have seen, sold me.

Magnuson Moss warranty act took care of that BS

Well, Magnuson-Moss may have established equivalence and in a court battle sets precedence, but I, for one, would rather pay a few bucks more to have the filters specified and used on the rig when I bought it from the factory than get into a argument/discussion with any of my central manufacturers (Cummins, Spartan, Allison, etc). Any filter is easy to find and buy on the web these days..... I could care less that I can get an equivalent filter at NAPA and I don't care who really made the filter versus who's box it is in and who's label is on it when I buy it.

If a supplier asks me what filter is on it, and I tell them and can prove it is what they specify, the discussion moves on to the next topic and there is no tension over that issue. Its simple to use what the manufacturer specifies themselves, and the additional 5 bucks that that filter might cost is well worth the 5 bucks in ending any discussion or concern over that particular aspect of the problem being dealt with. If I can get the OEM specified replacement filter, then that is the one that is used almost all of the time. Just my way of doing things.

Gary

I don't disagree at all.

Gary and buddy, if you choose to spend more money for an inferior product than that's your choice. The comment about an argument/discussion with a vendor has already proven to be a mute issue due to court litigation.

For the record, WIX filters usually cost more than the Fleetguard products but its a case of getting your money's worth for the product you buy.

In my case, I'd rather have better protection and spend $5.00 more for a better filter.

It comes down to what you want, not what others want.
