Another Run New Coax Cable Run on Classic

I have the 2013 Aspire 42RBQ classic with the half bath. The TV and BOMB (Box of Many Buttons) is above the fireplace, and access to the back side of the cable area is inside the top shelve of the mirror inside the half bath. (removable panel)

The "Cable In" plug for the motor home is located below the half bath in the outside compartment where the power cord reel is. My current cable from the back side of the plate to the BOMB must be bad. I connected high speed internet through this route, and the signal was too low to work properly. When I connected the cable in through the slide direct to the modem, all worked perfect. I don't know if the cable in the coach is old, and maybe will not work with the new high speed stuff?

Has anyone run a new cable up this path, and is it fairly easy to do? I tried to see if the cable had slack, or if I could hook a new cable to it to pull it through, and it seemed to not want to cooperate, but it may be in a plastic wrapping with a phone line.

I would like to run a new cable to make connecting to the internet service without having to run the coax through the slide.

99% of the time the problem is the connectors and not the cables. Cutting off the connectors and installing new ones will likely solve the problem. Another possible problem is if there are splitters or a selector box (BOMB) in the line somewhere, your cable signal may not be able to travel past them. If you can find these blocking devices they can be bypassed.

Marc - Makes sense, I will look at cutting the ends off and putting on new connections. This cable is the one that I unscrewed from the BOMB from the cable "in" plug in the bay below.

It is a fairly short cable, maybe 6-8 feet. I just don't know what if runs through to get up to the cabinet above the fireplace. (what kind of opening, and can I feed a cable tape tool through it to pull a new one up, if necessary. Got a while before we go back out west to Indio this fall.

Then it should be a straight run and I am willing to bet new connectors, properly installed, will solve the problem. Be sure to use quality compression-type connectors and not the crimp-on type. The compression connectors require a special tool which comes in a kit (connectors and tool) available at Lowes. If you are not experienced in using them, see video below.

Thank you Marc - when I first hooked up the high speed internet through the connection in the motorhome, it worked for a day, then lost the signal. I messed with it a while, and it would work, then not, and running the cable direct to the modem thru the slide made it work 100%, so you are probably correct about the connectors, and I will replace the little face plate connection there in the storage bay and see if that works.

I need about a foot more cable in my cabinet where the modem goes - have considered leaving it in the bay below, but still need a cat 6 to get to my wifi router (cable modem is not a router).

If we decide to put our lot into the rental program, then I will have to leave all that on the lot - offering WIFI is a requirement for rental program n the owners agreement. It is nice having real internet on site!

1. You can buy a combination modem and wifi router and leave the whole thing in your basement. Just about every cable company will let you use your own cable modem.

2. You could put your existing modem and wifi router in the basement and still connect via wifi to the router from above.

3. You can extend the cable to get the extra foot you need using a double-female cable connector. You lose a small amount of signal doing this but usually not enough to matter.
