Antifreeze leak at the sight glass

My 2014 Aspire keeps leaking antifreeze at the sight glass. Replaced the O ring twice but the leak comes back. Anybody else having this problem? Thanks, Doug

Maybe a cracked sightglass...they do tend to break.

Don't know if this is the kind of surge tank that you have or not: Mine had a bubble type sight glass -- there was no crack, but had to replace the tank when it started leaking. New tank has a sight glass that is smaller and flat. \ken

PS. JBWeld held the leak in check until I could get it to a shop for repair.

If you have the old bubble stye site glass many are defective and being replaced with a flat sight glass. Solved my problem.....call Spartan for a free replacement. if yours is leaking.

Got mine replaced (free) with the new flat style at Spartan this spring due to the bubble style being dis-coloured and hard to see through.

The bubbles one break often. If you have the flat glass kind make sure you install it with some Teflon tape. The factory used pipe dope on mine.

Need New One

How do you exchange the sight glass? Is it threaded?

I asked them for my free flat sight glass about 3 months ago and was politely told that it was NOT FREE, and I could buy one for about $28.00. Will be interesting to hear what you are told. Please post to the list. Also asked when my radiator was being replaced about a month ago at a Cummins CoachCare shop but they did not have the flat and only had the bubble type, which they replaced with a clearer version.

You know...the thimble version can "break off" (thus being covered by warrantee). Mine did on my Anthem, and surprisingly, landed in the engine cowling tray. Spartan didn't ask for me to send the the broken thimble!

I now carry a brass plug 1/2 npt thread in my tool box. I had to use it twice while on the road until Spartan came up with the new sight glass. Should the new one ever leak I can go back to the brass plug.

If the site glass leaks, it is covered under warranty. If you just want a pretty new site glass maybe not. Mine was replaced under warranty.

Chuck

My sight glass was cracked at the time that I asked for my FREE Sight glass, and was told no, but I didn't realize it. It was not until they replaced the radiator that we also realized that my bubble type sight glass was cracked. Then they didn't have the flat version. Bummer!

As other posts have stated, I guess it is who we talk to at Spartan. I had no problem getting my second sight glass replaced with the new flat version. Maybe they want a photo of the leak now.
