Anyone Remove a Cornerstone Air Cleaner?

Has anyone with a Cornerstone removed their Air Cleaner assembly?

The orientation on the Spartan K3 / Cummins ISX combination is substantially different than the K2 / ISL combination.

Hoping for some Pro tips to make the job easier and avoid the need for physical therapy when finished.

Watched the mobile tech change mine. Not going to attempt myself.

I guess I don't get it. Is a Cornerstone air filter substantially different from a Anthem? On my Anthem I have removed the filter once or twice and I don't remember it being rough.

My internal multiplier is 3. So if Cummins can do it in 1.5, it'll probably take me 4.5... The first time. After doing it once, I can probably shave a hour or 2 off of that.

No, it is not. Same Ecolite canister affair. The orientation is 90 degrees different and it is wedged in a cubby on the left side of the busy engine bay. I am tempted to remove the floor of the rear closet to improve access to the rear clamp.

The filter is larger and the space is more constricted. I've changed mine and it isn't hard but you have to follow the correct procedure.

First - there's no way you can get it out of the engine compartment via the back hatch. Even ids you removed the oil filler tube and dipsticks from the engine and transmission you wouldn't get it past the steel bracing back there. However it easily comes out the top.

Step one is to loosen up the hose clamps that hold the inlet and outlet hoses to the filter housing. Then unsnap the clamps that hold the filter in its mounting cradle. Then you'll need a hose hook or small screwdriver to work in between the hoses and filter to break them loose because the hoses will adhere to the filter over time. Once you've gotten that far the filter is loose and can be moved around a bit in that area but you still won't be able get it out because there is too much stuff in the way.

Now you go into the bedroom and empty out the rear wardrobe. There will be seven (on a full width rear wardrobe anyway) large deck screws at the front edge that are buried in the carpeting. Remove them. At the rear of the wardrobe is a long full-width piano hinge. Use a stiff putty knife or similar item to pry up the front edge and swing the wardrobe floor up on its hinge so that it is standing vertically on the back wall. Now your filter is exposed. You can lift it out and carry it through the coach to the nearest dumpster. I recommend having a large plastic garbage bag handy because it is dusty and you do need to carry it through your coach. Reverse the procedure to install the new one.

My last coach had a MMGT chassis with the ISL engine. Much smaller filter and no mechanical fan drive to get in the way so all I had to do was remove one link on the mudflap to swing it out of the way and drop the filter right out the bottom. Not so easy on a K3 with the ISX but at least Entegra did a good job designing the wardrobe.

Thank you Cruzer - that makes so much more sense.

I was out measuring yesterday and trying to find out if there was wiggle room.

I would rather spend a few hours in an air-coditioned coach cleaning out the closet (I need to do that anyway) than 4 futile sweaty, dirty hours underneath the back hatch.

On my coach I will also have to remove a shoe rack that appears screwed into the floor on the right side.

Thanks again!

That is exactly what the mobile guy did.

Where did everyone buy the air filter, and how much are they pay, and how often should it be replaced or cleaned

Why didn't they just use a Donaldson radial seal filter enclosure?

That would be too easy. We must sacrifice skin and blood to the RV maintenance gods :-)
