You could add Teflon tape to the barb to take up space, I also run a water softener on my coach. For soft water

Good idea on the T tape if I have to change hoses. I think changing the inlet hose has solved the hose taste problem. The factory inlet hose make a good sewer flush hose until I can hard plumb the water fill. Like you, I wouldn't leave home without the water softener, I wall mounted mine behind the central vac for travel. Perfect place for it.
