Anyone tried installing a 5/8 hose on an Entegra hose reel?

I have one of the hoses that has the bad taste. All of the Walmarts in my area are now all carrying the 5/8" drinking water hoses. Has anyone tried installing a 5/8 hose on our hose reels or do I have to go all the way out to CW? Maybe Amazon instead for a 1/2 inch hose

I think I "may" have gotten rid of the bad taste. I soaked the hose in Clorox for 15 minutes, flush it and the taste seems to be gone. Now to see if comes back later today after it is sit in the sun for a few hours.

It has to be 1/2". Mine has a connector that could possible be changed to a 5/8" adapter but it was pretty resistant to coming off so I just went and got 1/2". Also it is extremely sensitive to leakage so really crank down on the hose clamp.

FWIW, an update on my experience with the hose taste. It was apparent at first. It pretty much faded away after about a week and half to two weeks. After three weeks, it is gone. Still a little odor from the hot water side that I attribute to the piping going through the AH unit. It is mostly gone and continues to lessen each day. We do fulltime, so we probably put more water through the system than others. Yes, at first, we did have a very strong "new hose" taste and smell from the hose. Had not had that with other new hoses in the past.

Thanks Bill and Gary. I think I solved the problem. I took the hose from the reel to the fresh water inlet and made that my black tank flush line. That hose seemed to be marine grade and not drinking water hose. I replaced that with a 1/2 drinking water hose. I poured bleach in the water hose and let it sit for 15 minutes then flushed it. Taste was gone. I then let the hose sit it the sun with water in it to see if the taste would come back...it did not. Hopefully the problem is solved. Your post awhile back Bill is what gave me the idea to bleach the hose before replacing it, thanks.

While there shouldn't ordinarily be a problem with your set up, you have no back flow preventer from the black tank to the combination hose approach you put in place. If you want to get elegant, go back through the modifications thread a number of pages and you'll find an elegant solution Gary (BeachBum) used in his cabinet. I am in the process of finishing same.

While the sprayer shouldn't allow back flow in a full or sloshing tank, I don't like taking chances. Just a thought.

Almost all blank tank sprayers have back flow devices piped in: check under your sink in vanity above wet bay.

If you look at the picture, the hose exits the fresh water reel via a splitter to the black tank and the fresh water entrance. There is no back flow preventer, unless I am missing something.

Picking up a back flow preventor tomorrow, I just wanted to work and the hose taste today with what I had on hand. Adding a backflow is easy, getting rid of the hose taste, not so much.

Yep...just get a little hesitant when I see connections to that black tank...but take a look at Gary's elegant solution. Takes about fifty bucks. Since you're handy, it would be a cinch.

I have Gary's picture printed off and that will probably be made. Our problem this year is time. Being our MH was 3 months late for delivery, lots of "must have" mods and packing to be done before we leave for the summer. Our black tank is currently totally empty and filled to the top and flushed twice. There is a check valve, it the black knob on the "Y" and it's up to me to check it. However that is not a permanent hookup, just a test to see if I have taken care of the bad hose taste.

Looks good Phil, nice job. I need to go up and around my soap dispenser now and your way will work.

Glad to hear that. Others said a 5/8 would not clamp down on the hose reel barb. Hopefully changing my inlet hose seems to have gotten rid of the hose taste.
