Aqua-Hot Leak or Normal?

Quick question: could running the furnace (“gas”) heat for the first time this year empty most the coolant overflow tank?

Since AH repaired our main tank last April, we haven’t run the furnace; however, hot water has been abundant, with no evident problems (~150 days out).

When we arrived at the campground last Saturday, hot water was fine, and I verified the overflow tank was full (if not a bit over the hot full line…)

We ran the furnace last night, and this morning the tank is mostly empty.

The heat worked great overnight and this AM, and our hot water works fine.

I pulled the main tank cover, and can find no leaks, nor are there any leaks visible in the cargo area, on the ground, in the “common leak area” under the kitchen counter, or in the back bedroom AH area.

Also, there is no coolant odor in any of those locations or anywhere in the coach, and the AH board has no warning lights.

I have a full bottle of replacement fluid concentrate, and I will refill as soon as my wife returns with some distilled water; however, I just wanted to check to see if this might be considered normal, or if I likely have a problem I’m just not finding?

As always, thanks in advance.

BG

Sounds like some air was trapped in the lines that run to the heat registers, and running the heat "burped" the air out of the system, and was replaced by the fluid. You may have to add it a few times until the system stabilizes, if there are no signs of leaks.

Sounds like air in the heat register lines if the unit was worked on, very normal. Every time my system has been worked on the service tech advised 2 hours of run time to disperse the air.

Thank you guys - definitely makes sense. Much a relief, as my wife would divorce me if we had to go through another A/H leak episode! Thanks again,

BG

Yes, after adding solution 3 times, the tank level finally stabilized. Thanks again for the advice,
