Vance, your posts are educational for sure but you need to find some warm weather destinations! Chuck gives great direction to this place called Florida! I highly recommend it!

The Aquahot 450DE has a 2 year warranty why did they not cover the repair costs?

Also for educational purposes he would not have had any hot water if the low boiler fluid sensor was triggered. It disables both diesel and electric heating. His initial description could also be attributed to a bad stir pump. The 450DE has a great control panel which can be used to diagnose many issues. There are many aqua hot experts here but a detailed description of your control panel can speed up your help.

Warranty expired

The coach was originally picked up Nov, 2014 although it is a 2015 so warranty is over. Blame it on Tommy for ordering coaches so far in advance

Blame Tommy for selling the coach to fast and not maintaining the Aqua Hot No wander he never has any coach problems.

As a note to others:
As I found out with my AH problems, bend down when rolling up the power cord and check the AH fluid level and condition. It would have saved me and the OP from the problems we had. Checking AH fluid is now right up there with checking the oil and engine coolant on my list.

Michael,

Some experiences are good, some bad. Arctic weather wintering in a MH is an experience we are glad is behind us and one we won't repeat!

I have heat and hot water tonight! Yeah!!! All week I get a trickle of warm-ish water and then cold. I've been running the generator all night to have an electric heater. Today the AquaHot guy fixed it. Turns out the thermostat was bad, turning the heat off at 114 and not turning it on until low 70s or so. It's supposed to come on at 140 and off at 190. Since it was turning on an off, technically it wasn't broken, and he said that he couldn't swap it because AH would not warrantee the part because it did not throw an error. He called AH and fortunately got to someone who knows their stuff, and got the OK to replace it. No more cold showers at Quartzsite!

That still blows my mind about Aqua Hot...have a known bad items, it could be screaming like a banshee, but if it still works it's OK and not covered. If it "kind" of heats water up, it's working and OK so it's not covered. Yep, one of these days they are going to piss off the wrong owner that is an attorney.

STIR PUMP !! Yes it finally failed us BUT as luck would have it we had scheduled our annual service with Darin Hathaway ( Elkhart, In. tech that travels to & works in Florida in the winter ) and it failed the day before he was scheduled.

Darin had a stir pump, replaced it under warranty, did our annual service and was concerned about our other 108 pumps. He called AquaHot for approval to swap them out based on his years of service and the 108's failure history.

NO DICE !! Still working even if questionable by a highly trained tech they will only replace upon a TOTAL FAILURE. So now we wait and see which goes first , pumps or 2 year warranty !

That was Norcold's policy.....they just settled I believe a $33 Million dollar class action lawsuit. Maybe one of these days it happens to another vendor that has inconvenienced so many owners having to replace known bad items.

Coach warmed up quickly when we were able to restart the burner.
My Monaco came with a 128 gallon diesel fuel tank. The Aqua-Hot and Generator pickups in the tank are supposed to be around the quarter tank mark. Through trial/error I determined that the Aqua-Hot and generator both quit after I have used about 82 gallons of a full tank. I determined that similar to you when one day in Alaska they both quit and I headed off to the pump. So for my tank it is more like 1/3rd of a tank is the critical point. Unfortunately the fuel gauge is not that accurate or reliable so if I am stopping for the night I make sure that the gauge is more than half full.

One day while heading to Florida for the winter I "pushed" the envelope too far while on the road and figured out exactly at what level my Cummins engine quits. Luckily I was able to coast directly into a diesel pump and proceeded to pump 101 gallons of fuel. Therefore there are about 28 gallons of fuel which are not usable due to the shape of the tank bottom.

As you know, fuel is dispensed volumetrically, by the gallon. Depending upon the temperature of the fuel, the actual pounds of fuel per gallon can vary. Warmer fuel, fewer pounds of fuel before our volume of a gallon is achieved.

Typically, diesel #2 is estimated to weigh 7 pounds per gallon. This weight is likely at 59F. Above 59F (fuel temp) and you won't have quite 7 pounds. Below 59F and you'll have slightly more than 7 pounds per gallon.

The bottom line is, if you fuel with cold diesel I would expect the pump to shut off sooner than anticipated. Correspondingly, warm or hot fuel might cause the pump to run beyond what is expected before the tank is full.

We pay by the gallon, we burn by the pound.

Another factor is fuel gauge accuracy. While I'm quite impressed with our Spartan fuel quantity indicating system, I expect it to only be accurate when completely full, or empty. Any midpoint indications are subject to far too many errors to bet the farm on.

I hope this helps eliminate any confusion,
Actually, this has me totally confused.

I do not profess to be a genius but I've been told that I have an average IQ with not much book smarts. However, I do have a lot of common sense and your statement in regards to "we pay by the gallon but burn by the pound" does not compute with me.

Can you explain in layman's terms?

My Cummins engine burns so many gallons per mile, my Aqua-Hot burns so many gallons per hour and my generator burns so many gallons per hour.

I have never seen any quantitative parameter with regards to any of these where they burn by the pound. Plus I don't think it matters much to the weight of the coach.

Not to hijack the original thread. The next issue is : how long before any funds trickle down to those of us that were most affected ? We had 2 Norcolds during the time period. One got two cooling units the other we learned our lesson and R & R to a residential.
