Aquahot Auto-Off
I had plenty of hot water this morning to shave but it ran out when I got in the shower. I looked at the panel and the Burner switch was ON but the light was out. Fuel gage was right at 1/8 tank (CS said Aquahot will run down to 1/8 tank). Luckily diesel delivery was scheduled for this morning. We closed off the back and the fireplace kept us comfortable; low to mid 20s outside.
It was mentioned here that the fuel cutoff levels for generator and Aquahot are based on plumbing so I expected to take ~130 gallons (1/8 x 150 = 18.75). The delivery guy filled it right to the top and we took 118.3 gallons. At least I know when our Aquahot will quit though I don't intend to do this again!
Coach warmed up quickly when we were able to restart the burner.

Our coach sat a lot in storage for over a year. Used it in August for 3 weeks - mostly warm weather. Used it again for an NIRVC event in Vegas (near where we store coach). Bottom line not used much. After picking up our coach we're staying put for a while to get organized for full time travels. Been chilly here - low 40's > high 30's @ night. Went to use Burner to heat floor this a.m. & to get plenty of hot water. Burner toggle switch won't stay lit & hot water runs short, can't heat Aqua Hot fire outside front bath window. Hose & electric are not near exhaust, so no damage potential from that. When switching to gas on the thermostat, it did "fire" 'cause I felt the air coming through the floor vent under the kitchen sink, but it didn't stay on... Any suggestions to correct this problem would be appreciated? Will also call Entegra in the a.m. Thanks.

Exercise AH when in storage. Schedule a weekly 1/2 hour. Go turn on burner and heat it up. 30 min. Per week.
Gen you too!

Sounds like a bit of maintenance should be scheduled.

Thanks, Pat. After reading & inspection, it appears burner nozzles & filter should be replaced. We never requested storage co. to run AH or gen. AH reservoir is also empty. "Beginners luck."

Vance, one reason your delivered fuel quantity could be different than expected is based upon how fuel is dispensed.
As you know, fuel is dispensed volumetrically, by the gallon. Depending upon the temperature of the fuel, the actual pounds of fuel per gallon can vary. Warmer fuel, fewer pounds of fuel before our volume of a gallon is achieved.
Typically, diesel #2 is estimated to weigh 7 pounds per gallon. This weight is likely at 59F. Above 59F (fuel temp) and you won't have quite 7 pounds. Below 59F and you'll have slightly more than 7 pounds per gallon.
The bottom line is, if you fuel with cold diesel I would expect the pump to shut off sooner than anticipated. Correspondingly, warm or hot fuel might cause the pump to run beyond what is expected before the tank is full.
We pay by the gallon, we burn by the pound.
Another factor is fuel gauge accuracy. While I'm quite impressed with our Spartan fuel quantity indicating system, I expect it to only be accurate when completely full, or empty. Any midpoint indications are subject to far too many errors to bet the farm on.
I hope this helps eliminate any confusion,
-Matt

Your reservoir being empty is the most likely cause of your problems. There is a low fluid switch in the system which will not allow the system to run if it is too low on fluid. There is also a light for this on the status panel in the basement. Fill the reservoir back up to the cold line and see if it fires up. Then check why the fluid was so low to start with, it could be a leak or still getting air out of the system. Once the system is hot follow the procedure in the manual to set the proper fluid level.

By API standards fuel is temperature corrected to 60 degrees F. If the product temperature is 60F the gross and net would be the same.
I'm looking at a BOL on a load of # 2 diesel that we just received today and the diesel temperature was 74 degrees F and the gross gallons are 7501 and the net gallons are 7448. And the weight per gallon is 6.699 lbs.
As Matt said you get more bang for your buck if the fuel is cold. All fuel in this area is sold in gross gallons at the retail level. Temperature compensating dispensers are very expensive. I think it's almost a none issue as the fuel is stored underground and the temperature is not general elevated above 60F.
On the wholesale side we buy both by gross and net gallons depending on what terminal we are lifting from. The terminal choice not ours.
This properly makes this all the more confusing.
Richard

Certainly a lot of detailed explanations of exactly how the OP found themselves in the situation. It's interesting to read about the affect that temperature has on fuel volume - as well as about its correlation with how the Aquahot's fuel pickup from the diesel tank works. While it's interesting - I'd be happy with the high level knowledge that there is a point (usually somewhere around the quarter tank mark) at which the generator and the Aquahot will quit drawing from the coach's diesel tank and let it go at that. We usually sidestep being affected by this issue by making sure we fuel up the coach shortly before arriving at any place we intend to stay for any length of time.

The diesel fuel is certainly the backbone of the coach... diesel generator = power = cold air conditioning =cold beer=power for entertainment = hot coffee = toasty heat when its cold= powering your big Cummins taking you to your happy place😀

There is no good reason that your holding expansion tank is empty and I would be more concerned with that fact than I would be with any of the other issues.... Find out why that tank drained. I agree that fact is likely a big part of your problem.
Also, there is no way that your diesel nozzle should be bad at this point. I do believe in changing my AquaHot burner nozzle every 2 years (some believe every year), but when I have had them changed and the AquaHot serviced at two years, the nozzles have looked brand new with no signs of clogging or problems.

To follow up, after over 3 weeks with no AquaHot heat (much nicer than electric heat) /hot water (other than 4 minute on-off showers w/electric heat), AquaHot system is back online. It took AquaHot / Jessica stepping up & shipping us 4 replacement good German Buehler pumps (not 105's or 108's) for our AH '450 system @ no charge +new nozzle & filter (our cost appx $50 - ordered spares, too) & finally, a replacement coil (our cost /$592.00- coil OUCH + overnight shipping). After 4 new pumps were installed, with retrofit kits, new nozzle, new fuel filter, the system still wouldn't fire. Tedious diagnostic determined the coil was bad. Replacement coil overnighted & installed. All good for now...Submitted extended warranty claim to co. recommended by NIRVC, Lewisville - "Phoenix American" - spoke with "Andrea" there. Will post reimbursement results when available - was told 2-4 weeks for ruling - mailing summary of issues & costs to Miami, FL today - they also have a fax, but no email available (?), so USPS. Since repairs were done on a '911 basis due to cold weather & tech availability, extended warranty says they should cover even though claim was not made at the outset of the problem which is required protocol. Lots learned going through this process & will be vigilant watching over use & maintenance of AH system.
