The first picture is the small section of the hose/tubing left on the air purge valve connection after the whole hose had cracked off and the second picture is the once clear hose, now discolored and brittle.

Thank you anyway!

Gary, where the 120 volt connection to the Aquahot is a very chincy terminal block with very small screws. If your wiring has gotten hot you will be better off to bypass that small terminal block and just use wire nuts for the connection.
I didn’t see your original problem so if this isn’t applicable forget I posted.

I followed Phils indication and used 30” of 5/8 ID hose

Gary, time to trade your cheap 19 in. J Gunter is correct, I just looked my 21 also has heater hose. I knew there had to be another reason I traded the 19.

Gary. One more thing. Behind the aquahot is the aquahot loop that goes to the engine. Make sure to change all 5/8” to 1/2” Barb fittings on that loop to avoid another failure

Good evening

Just something else for me to look at.
I have two questions:

1- I know Gary posted one, but can someone put up a photo of the entire Aqua Hot where I can find the hose in question?

2- When someone spends $900 to have the Aqua Hot fluid changed, why would this not be reviewed and replaced at the same time?

Best

Mike

It is the hose that comes off the plastic overflow tank right above the AquaHot usually mounted right on the wall in the same compartment. The overflow tank has a hose coming off the top that goes out the basement floor to drain excessive boiler fluid to the street. The hose i am talking about come off the bottom of the overflow tank and it runs to a fitting right in the middle of the top surface o the AH 450. As heat builds, the boiler fluid expands and is pushed up through this tube and begins filling the overflow tank. When the AH is turned off, the water cools and the transfer fluid drains back into the heating chamber and the level drop to the low/cold water mark of the expansion overflow tank. The hose between the overflow and the air release fitting in the top of the AH unit is the hose that needs to be replaced with radiator hose.

AquaHot Hose failure - be WARNED !!

Mike

Easy to find. Bottom of the water bottle to the top of the aquahot.

Question 2: Because no one thinks it is a problem.

I get my AquaHot serviced by a real AH pro (see his card taped to my AH). Lloyd knows everything that there is to know about the operation of an AquaHot but it is not in his bailiwick to second guess design engineers and assembly line installers. I'd bet a whole lot more than $10 that the decision to install crappy plastic pipe was not someone at AH, but someone who doesn't know better.

One of the unfortunate things we learn on here and as owners of products is that often we are the ones that figure out design problems and weaknesses which is why a forum like this is so damn important !!!

I am going to question "real pro" when he left that hose on. It was Darin Hathaway, Aqua Service that pointed mine out that that hose should be changed at the first service. He was vary aware of that hose and the problems it causes. Mine was burnt but not yet leaking and when I made the photo post about changing that hose.

Another AH leak point that will empty your overflow bottle

There is another Aqua Hot leak source to be aware of. There are two large hoses that connect to the top rear of the case on each side. It is entirely possible that either or both will become a leak source. Just filling the overflow bottle adds enough pressure for the hose on the left side to leak onto the top and sides of the case, even with the AH off. You can fill your bottle and watch the level fall off until it's empty. The factory installed connector is poorly designed and you probably won't be able to find an identical one.

I was in AZ and parked at a campground when my first leak happened. It was pretty obvious where the leak was because I half filled my bottle and watched it come back out. I spent two days looking for a replacement without success, so I modified my connector. It held for a few months, then started leaking again. Searching the forums I found a combination of AH end connector, hose connector attached above it, and constant pressure clamps that all fit together and it has held for two years and counting. I replaced both sides.

I strongly that you carry at least one of these connector systems in your bag of spare parts or, even better, go ahead and replace them now.

As a follow-up note. I have been surprised at how much Century boiler fluid my system, now repaired and sealed, has taken. I have added a total of 1.5 gallons of additional boiler fluid to the system over two or three days as the system has continued to "burp" out air as it worked. A couple of times a day, I checked the tank and needed to add a cup or two of boiler fluid until the system stabilized fully. Now the expansion tank level is holding steadily but I have been surprised how much boiler fluid it continued to take to get stable.
