successfully completed
Hi all
I successfully completed this minor surgical procedure!
Parts required: 3-foot section of heater hose ($4.34 at O'Rileys)
Tools: Nut driver, half of a plastic milk jug, rag
Time: 8 minutes
It took me just over 8 minutes to complete this job.
I have attached before and after photos.
Thanks to all who brought this to our attention.
Be safe
Dr. Mike

Yep, that's about right.... amazing that it wasn't done that way coming down the assembly line....... right ?
I don't think that would have cut into profit margins too severely, do you?
Oh, I think that you forgot to include the costs of those two stainless steel hose clamps.... those look new.... and would substantially impact the total cost.
Oh, and you might need to add some more Century Transfer Fluid.... (Amazon) as it should be up to that bottom "cold" line.

Small tidbit, I found that not all 5/8 radiator hoses are created equal. I had to go to a few stores to find one with a heat rating near (or as close as I could get) to 200 degrees. The boiler reaches temps of 190 degrees, so I wanted to highest rated hose I could find in that size.
Cheers

I was perusing pics for a bunk model on a site a few hours ago and came across a Thor Tuscany bunk model (NOT that I am getting a Thor mind you, not supposed to be an upgrade there) and in looking at the pics the hose from the overflow was a black heat rated hose.
Thor Motorcoach is using the correct hose! Go figure....

Rusty is correct that the quality and heat rating of 5/8” coolant hose varies quite a bit. I’ve come to prefer blue silicone hose, which is considerably more expensive than garden-variety black rubber heater hose, but well worth it in my opinion.
I buy it at Hose Power, which has stores in many but not all states in the U.S – https://hosepower.com. It’s also available at NAPA and other retail outlets, plus numerous online sources.

Maybe Chuck .... not familiar with that type of hose, so wondering what the advantage of that type of hose is.

High heat tolerant where none of the current hoses on the Aqua Hot meet that standard. There has still never been an explanation for the sludge, the hose(s) may have been one of the reasons.

I didn't heed the advice of the wise ones on this forum about replacing my Goodyear steer tires and I paid the price (going into the shop soon for >$5k in repairs).
This time, I'm paying attention - I replaced the hose with 24" of 5/8" heater hose purchased at NAPA. With 2 screw type hose clamps the total was $5.79.
As I was removing it, it developed leaks just from the minor flexing.
Thanks Gary for starting this post!

I started following this topic a couple of weeks ago. Kept an eye on our AH and low and behold this morning our expansion tank was empty and the fluid was on the ground. Found the leak at the pressure relief valve and was able to cut off 2” and reattach. We will be at our winter stopping point in October so I will be changing it out.
This, on top of having to replace with what now is the fourth diesel burner module($850 latest and greatest version), doesn’t make me an AH devotee.
Never had this many issues with propane heaters, ever.
Still working through issues with new module and how it reacts differently than previous ones. Maybe, hopefully just a new learning curve for us.

Can I ask the experts here if this hose would work:

Thanks.
