Basement Circuit Breaker Question

The Basement Circuit Breaker has an 8 amp load on it, but we can't determine where it's drawing from. Only thing that we can see that is plugged in is the Dirt Devil. Unplugged the freezer in the basement and it is still drawing the 8 amps.

Does anyone have any idea as to what it might me?

What circuit breaker are you measuring the load from? Anything plugged in at the P/S first bay? That is where I have my battery and tool chargers plugged in.

Hi Chuck,

No. Nothing that I can see is plugged in. The outlets in the PS 1st bay are for the freezer which I unplugged. There are 2 outlets in the 4th bay PS, (where the water filter is), but there is nothing plugged in. On the DS 3rd bay back is a single plug for the Dirt Devil which I unplugged. No other outlets on the DS. Still drawing 8 amps.

Cheers,

As Twin Boat suggested, the block heater in the engine bay. The Aqua Hot is on 12v, so there is not much left that I can think of.

Next thing would be to turn the breaker off and see if anything doesn't work. If the freezer is in the front compartment on a 2014, that was not factory. There might be something else wired in to the basement that is also not factory.

Got me confused. My freezer is in the bay with the short door on the PS. In the first bay is the controllers for the awnings. Might want to check those where ever they are located on your rig. They are on full time.

The HDMI splitter is plugged into a basement plug on the ceiling near the middle rear of the basement rear area.

Hi Robert,

Yes, The awning controllers are behind the freezer in the 1st PS bay, and as Don (757driver) mentions below, the HDMI is plugged in to an outlet further back on the PS side. But even with these plugged in, they can't be drawing 8 amps.

Thanks for the great ideas guys. When we get New Years over, I'll pull everything out of the basement in the next few days, and do a complete search.

Happy New Year everyone !

Cheers,

Al,

Where are you seeing and/or measuring the 8 amps?

That is a lot of current, something is getting hot. My block heater outlet is in the rear bay up high. The only thing I can imagine pulling that much current.
Happy New Year

Hi Don,

We shut down the main breaker to the Inverter so that the panel was in invert mode. Measured the battery draw which was 88 amps. So, calculated the volt load was about 8.8 amps. Then checking the breakers, it dissappears when we turn off the basement breaker.

Just did it again and got the same result.

Thoughts???

That's about 1000 watts. I don't think you said if you checked that the block heater was unplugged. It's in the engine compartment. 1000 watts is probably about what it consumes. In 2014 I think they were still wiring that plug to an inverter circuit...

Al,

If you are seeing 88 amp draw on the inverter remotes then I would agree that is about 8 amp AC draw.

With the main 50 amp breakers turned off the only way I would see a draw that high on the inverter remotes would be with the coffee pot on or the microwave (and then it would be much higher). With the fridge on, the tv and satellite dish on, and the fridge doing a defrost cycle I would see about 45 amp DC load, no where near the 88 amp DC you are seeing. On my basement circuit breaker the only plugs on there are front and rear (p/s) basement fridge plugs, vacuum, and engine block heater, and perhaps HDMI plug. Did you check if the engine block heater was plugged in?
