Bay door gas strut

The end of the gas strut on one of my bay doors broke when I allowed it to swing open unrestrained. Note to self never allow the bay doors to swing open without holding it back.

It is a 20" long Master Lift gas strut. I found similar struts on Amazon,

https://www.amazon.com/Vepagoo-Suppo...45&sr=8-1&th=1

but they are not Master Lift branded. I assume one of these would work, however what weight do I need? They are available from 10# to 100#. Since the struts do not need to support any weight I assume the 10# ones will work, should I get a heavier weight? I have posted photos of the broken one below.

Voltdoc posted where he bought replacements. Last time I looked the vendor was out.
20# load and 20” is what you want.
Amazon or any auto parts store.

Here are a couple of suggestions for you to do more research.

Your master lift part number is ML34, and I assume the lifting force is 30 pounds. So complete part number should be ML34-30.

https://gastac.com/product/master-lift-gas-strut/#

https://www.ameritoolmfg.com/product...s-spring-ml34/

These two web links should give you what you need to place an order from them, or it should give you enough info to cross reference over to another brand of strut.

Good luck!

Dark side,
That Masterlift shock ML34-30 is listed on the "Nautique" web site at $11.67.
OR Ebay for a pair at $23.00
Doesn't get much easier than that, and I would / did stick with Masterlift.

Any Idea about where I can find the end link? The end link unscrews if I can find just the end link, I would buy a few in case the same thing happens again. On another note, I went to an auto parts store and got a similar gas lift. It was a perfect fit, but it is much too strong. It will serve until I get one with the correct weight rating. Th new one is the one on top. Also, before anyone suggests it, I checked the end link from the new strut has a different thread pitch diameter and will not thread on to the old strut.

I ordered these off Amazon a couple weeks ago, 20" 20 lbs they only had 2 in stock at the time, when they arrived the box said 30 lbs, I measured them on a floor scale and they showed about 27 lbs avg ( old worn out were 9 lbs) they worked fine.

for the remainder I ordered:
https://www.amazon.com/SuspaC16-0856...2851934&sr=8-1

lead time was an extra week so I have not got them yet.

Dan, try calling the company I posted in post 2, they sell the end pieces separately. I have purchased the end attachments from them in the past.

Be careful if you use 30# arms. They will fling the door open eventually weakening/breaking the inside of the door at the hinge point.
Good practice to hold onto door while opening, even with the 20# arms.

If you read my original post that is what happened to the end link. I let the door swing open and the end link on the door end broke.

Lessen learned.

Also replace the screws

In addition to carrying an extra strut or two, buy some stainless steel screws. I had to replace several broken strut attachment screws before getting smart and replacing all of them. Broken screws can be a chore to remove.

My suggestion is get them from Entegra CS. I replaced several of mine and they were $15 dollars apiece. They are a special strut designed to open slowly and you do not have to hold them. They ones you buy on amazon will swing open way too fast.
