Bed Slide Out Issues

Here is a heads up regarding the bed and slide out arrangement on our coaches. Earlier today, while extending the slide out, one of the floor rollers came loose. It rolled over and jammed at the end of the bed and actually started to cause the foot of the bed to come apart. Fortunately, the DW, who was opening the slide, noticed it and stopped before serious damage was done.
When I disassembled the bed frame to access the roller, the problem became obvious. When Enterga installs the roller bracket to the bed frame, they use relatively small screws to hold it in place. These worked loose and the bracket fell off. In addition, the end of the bed frame is installed using screws that are "toe nailed" into place. They really can't take any load without pulling loose.
I bought 5/16" - 1" lag bolts for attaching the bracket back in place. I had to drill out the holes in the bracket to accommodate the larger fasteners. Then I simply reinstalled the bracket. In addition, I installed 4 corner brackets to the foot of the bed frame (inside) to reinforce the joint.

I am confident that no future issues will occur.

By the way, the first indication of this problem was the appearance of of a couple of loose screws on the floor of the bed room.

Mine did this also. Entegra fixed it at my pdi but did not do any extra bracing or better screws or bolts so I know it will come apart again. I plan to reinforce it before it breaks again. The new frames are made different on the corners

The floor boards on either side of the bed are held in place with 4 screws. Removing them allows the board to be tilted out although it is tight. I removed the rear decorative facia and loosened the end of the bed frame. This made it easier to remove the floorboard and was needed in my case because the screws holding the end of the bed to the side frame had been pulled loose. The rollers are mounted using an L shaped bracket that attaches to the side and end frames. Actually, drilling out the holes on the bracket to accommodate the heavier bolts was fairly easy and all I did was put the bracket on with a ratchet using the same holes in the frame. Do not drill these holes first. The lag bolts will easily screw in and will be tight.

Of course, once we pulled the floorboard, all the accumulated dust and pet hair that was difficult to access became obvious. The DW has "suggested" that "we" put a piano hinge on the outer end of the floorboard and a pull on the other to allow easy access. The floorboard could easily be swung up for service and cleaning. It appears that this is a project that "we" will be doing soon. I apologize for not taking pictures earlier, however, when the hinges are installed, I will take photos that should also show the roller arrangement as well.

Just remember; We PAY money to do this!!!
