Best brand of L16 400ah house batteries

My house batteries on my 2017 Aspire have just about given up the ghost. Just wondering what brand is the best. I am at Entegra coach now and they say the brand they use now is Relion. I am skeptical of the quality since the original ones (don't know what brand they were) started to go south in a little over a year. They quoted me a price of $750 each, which I think is a bit high. I was also thinking about lithium but I understand the original inverter and BIRD switch may have to be changed out.

Dave,

The best brand for replacement would be Lifeline AGM batteries. The Relion brand that Entegra is putting in has a poor record in terms of longevity.

In terms of lithium IF you want alternator charging while driving then yes the BIM would have to be changed. Your present inverter/charger and its associated remote would be more than capable of properly charging lithium.

X2 what Don said. If Lifelines are are not available, my second choice would be Fullriver batteries that also have very high rating. Relion are at the bottom of the scale for battery quality. https://www.fullriverbattery.com/

I replaced my OEM Relion (weak) batteries after 3 years of declining operation, with FullRiver AGMs several months ago and now have been using them for 2.5 months on this trip. I have done only a little bit of "boondocking" but was impressed with their "lasting" through the night with normal power consumption.

Like them so far.

Thanks guys, you confirmed what I had suspected. Entegra is still putting inferior batteries (chassis and house) and charging a premium price. Thanks again for all the input.

I would not hesitate to buy from this company, and in fact have done business with their parent company for many years. Good people, good products, and very customer-oriented. Highly recommended.

I second that. Got my 8 - GC2 Lifelines from them in June. They normally ship on pallet but did FedEx ship to me at home, still free!!

Later...

Rolls-Surrette makes very good batteries. It’s a Canadian company, located in Springhill, Nova Scotia. They’ve been in business since 1935 – longer than most of us have been alive! Flooded-cell batteries make up the majority of their product line, but they also manufacture AGM, Gel and LFP (lithium) batteries.

Their S6-460AGM-RE battery is a direct competitor to Lifeline’s GPL-L16T and has a slightly higher capacity rating – 415 Amp Hours for the Rolls battery versus 400 Amp Hours for the Lifeline.

The Battery Guys web site is selling the Lifeline GPL-L16T for $759.99 with free shipping. Doing a quick check of sources here in Arizona, I found Northern Arizona Wind & Sun in Flagstaff showing the Rolls S6-460AGM for $610.00, plus unspecified shipping charges. (The web site states, “This item ships by truck freight. For the most accurate shipping rates, please email us for a shipping quote or call us at 800-383-0195.”) L16 batteries weigh 120 to 125 pounds apiece, so shipping charges will not be trivial. Even so, I would expect the total cost for the Rolls L16’s to be a bit less than the Lifeline L16’s.

I’m partial to Lifeline batteries, having used them for years with good results and excellent technical support from the factory in southern California. But if I needed batteries and couldn’t obtain Lifelines, Rolls would be high on my list of second choices.

Everyone has their favorite... I have used the Lifeline AGMs with excellent results - 5 years in my Newmar and 6 years before that in a Cameo fifth wheel. Interesting - the last ones I bought from an Interstate dealer for less money than their competitive Interstates...

I replaced mine in June with Discover batteries EVL16A-A. These were the same as the original OEM. They may not be the "best" but the cost was $499 each plus some fees to the state. Republic Battery in Sugarland Tx

I’m curious why it was necessary to replace those batteries in a ~3yr old coach?

I’ve had Rolls-Surrette L16’s in service for 9 1/2 years for solar energy storage. A recent load test indicates that they have maintained more than 90% of their original capacity. Their 445Ah L16 is available for $375.

It turns out the 2 inverters don’t play nice with the batteries when on 15a over the winter in storage, so the batteries were discharged more than once. One of the 4 was bad, but the advice I had was to replace all 4
