Big day for me!

As many of you are aware, NIRVC opened their Washington, DC location less than 4 months ago.

Living some distance from the other NIRVC locations, I hadn’t established as close a relationship with NIRVC as many of you, until recently. Before the DC location opened, my relationship had been nothing more than a chassis service (and a dash A/C repair) more than a year ago and one phone conversation with Brett Davis which was a result of a comment that I had made on iRV2. That conversation was focused on the somewhat unique personal property tax in Virginia. Some counties aggressively tax personal property (RV’s, boats, airplanes and cars), a very few counties have a much more owner friendly strategy. Just by principally garaging an RV in one county rather than another can save thousands of dollars in annual property tax. At the time Brett and I had our phone conversation, he was exploring locations for the Washington, DC location. He chose a location in Prince William County (Manassas, VA) that is significantly owner friendly.

So, today was a big day for me. My coach is being serviced at NIRVC Washington, DC and I had a reason to stop by late this morning. I had a conversation with Matt Buckman, the GM. He mentioned that Brett would be visiting this afternoon and asked if I’d like to meet him. Of course, I was happy to seize that opportunity.

We had a great conversation across a spectrum of topics. There’s no doubt that he’s “the real deal”. That’s not just me with that assessment. Did you see his mention in the Friday (2/3/23) WSJ article discussing the challenges of full time living in an RV.

His passion for the RV lifestyle and his commitment to a quality relationship with his customers and employees shone through during our conversation. I have a background in the airline industry which is replete with great admiration for the the co-founder of Southwest Airlines, Herb Kelleher. IMHO, the recent meltdown of Southwest was significantly the result of the post Herb management’s loss of commitment to their customers AND employees. Brett impresses me as being committed to building and maintaining those relationships. When that is the focus at all levels of the organization, the business side will work out well.

During the course of my service, I’ve had multiple opportunities to connect with my service advisor, Renato Goncalves and the GM, Matt Buckman. Both are fine gentlemen and the embodiment of customer service. Without going into any detail, I presented them with a significant service challenge and they rose to the occasion.

Oh, did I mention that it was a big day for me?

Brett didn’t come alone for his visit to NIRVC Washington, DC. Angie came with him…and…I got to meet Angie!

Take care,
Stu

I can see your excitement meeting them both on the same day. I have had the opportunity to meet and talk to them both many times over the past number of years and my opinion has not changed, they are the real deal, and both are first class people.

Way to go Stu. What a great story.

Two people who really go out of their way for their customers.

What do we do for fun? We watch the latest Angie video of a nice new motorhome……

Two of the finest people I’ve met. So glad they opened a location in Virginia.

Just last night I sent a request for an appointment and estimate on some annual maintenance.

Thanks for the write up. NIRVC Atlanta and DC are both about the same distance from me so I guess I am lucky to have two great choices.

Good morning Stu,

Gosh, after all these years of reading your posts, PMing, texting, and phone calls… believe me, the honor was all mine in finally getting to meet you in person. And, I wasn’t disappointed! You’re every bit the gentleman I thought you would be.

After all, this location will always be “the house that Stu built.” That was such an enlightening phone call a couple of years ago.

Many thanks my friend,
Brett

Engaging communication requires willing participants, regardless of the situation you treat the team with encouraging respect. The NIRVC Team is grateful for the opportunity to further enhance your experience with NIRVC DC/VA.

Respectfully,

Matt Buckman

Yes your right both of them are great people. They really do care. We have such a great time at the AIM rallies. Va location is only about 60 miles from my house. Not bad at all. Just have to go the back way there down route 15 away from 495 Can not wait to they find there permanent location. Down that way. See you on the road Andrew Hyman

How about both.
