I have used the AuqaHot loop several times on cold morning to pre-heat the motor. I just turn it on when we wake up. By the time we have cleaned up and had breakfast the motor is ready to go. Typically 45m~1hr of the loop on has the motor temp in the low 80s or better. Only used the electric block heater once and that was because the coach was inside the shop and I have a few hours before needing to crank it.

On my old Diesel P/U I had the block heater cord setup with a timer. I would set the timer to turn on about 3 hours before I needed to leave for work. Truck was alway warm and ready to go when I left for work. Now when I was "on call" I would leave the truck plugged in all night. Truck was just as warm if left plugged in all night vs only being plugged in for a few hours. So much cheaper to just plug it in before you need to start the vehicle. Those block heaters do have a pretty decent electrical draw.
