Bob Combs - Aspire owner - 2017

Our 2017 Aspire is 14 months old to us and purchased new. I understand the home factory will do an annual inspection (AIR) for free at the factory. Will they do that inspection at other Entegra sales facilities. We are located in Surprise, AZ and would like to have something done closer to home.

Some one had said I read that nirvc will do a similar inspection... there’s one in Phoenix.. but I inquired on this awhile ago when I had a slide motor go out and the service lady said it was a couple grand for the inspection.. then it sounded like you need to pay for the repairs on top of that...
West coast to middlebarry Indiana is about 2 thousand dollars in travel expenses plus your time and the factory does the repairs at no charge...
I know this because I did it 2 years ago ... I personally felt it was really cool to go to the factory and we kinda made a vacation out of it... plus I wanted the repairs done right...

We were unable to get back to the mothership for our 2 year AIR. I had NIRV do the inspection and they worked with Entegra for all the warranty items. They did a great job.

This is my opinion.

Things may have changed, but I had to return to the factory at ~ 9 months because of a severe leak produced by a leaking Girard awning anchor bolt. I was there several weeks and while there, they fixed roughly 50 items that were on my list.... not really big things, but things that needed to be done. They also really did a nice job fixing my roof and wall leak. Then at 2 years, I was back there for what was then known as the 2-year PDI. I again had a list of 35-50 items on my list. What was amazing was that without looking at my list, they first had their own list and they caught ~ 20 things that they noticed that I had not noticed, and a couple of them were bigger items than I had on my list.

So, point of the story is that I thought both visits to the Mother-Ship were worth every penny I spent to get there and every day out of my hide making the trip and being there while things got fixed. I also had a service coordinator that was fantastic.... he knew his stuff and often had techs redoing things that he knew were still not adequate, hours before he would have had to show me what still needed to be done.. sadly, he is no longer there, but he was great. I assume the people there, if you stay on top of it, are still doing a good job.

Now, there may be a way to get a dealer to step in and do some of the basic warranty work at Entegra's expense, but my opinion is that there is no way that you are going to be able to talk Entegra into bankrolling at any remote dealer to fix all the things that I had on my 2 lists and they had on their own list.

My advice, find a way to get to Middlebury and take advantage of what they can do. Now, if you only have one or two things on your list and you have missed nothing .... then get it done locally, and be aware, you are one lucky owner of a 2 year old coach with only a couple of things that need fixed. ....

I had Taylor Coach in Anthem do all of my warranty work. Entegra works very well with them and they do both chassis and coach work. Contact Cheryl and she will set you up.

Bob, welcome to the group, and congratulations on your selection of a fine coach.

While NIRVC will perform the AIR (for a cost), the long trip to Indiana is totally worth the time and fuel.

While there you will have plenty of local attractions, including a factory tour. When you’re all done in Middlebury, I’d suggest a short drive up to the Spartan factoryin Charlotte, MI. Again, totally worth the drive as they can give your chassis a thorough inspection and give you a tour.

Keep in mind I work full time and have 2 small kids, so going up to the factories is a major scheduling and logistical problem for me. I actually had to drive the coach up, drove my pickup back, then return a month later and drive the coach and pickup in tow back to Houston. About 3600 miles all in.

Both stops were completely worth the effort.

Another vote for a factory visit. It is a shorter drive for us now (from SW Florida) but we still made the drive when we lived in Austin, TX. What they did, and the extras they did, made the trip well worthwhile.

I think it depends on what you need done to your coach. If you are looking to just do an end of 2 year pdi and have a couple of things looked at, it is not worth going to the factory. If the list is long and structural, then by all means book the trip. But be advised that Entegra is already almost entirely booked for next summer. I thought they were only booking out 6 months but was informed by Entegra, they are booking one year out. As far as the value of having the AIR done, per se, I think that is in the eye of the beholder.

By the way, my trip to the 1 year emergency trip was 500-600 (x2) round trip miles but meant that i had to sacrafice a week long rally in Hilton Head to get there, and my second PDI (the real 2 year PDI) I drove from Louisiana to Middlebury just for that PDI, and regardless of where I was or how much it cost me to get there, I still thought the cost and time was well spent by going back to the mothership. Then again, I had a lot more than a couple of things that needed fixed (paint, caulking on the slide perimeters, Mirror that "fell" down in the vanity, hundreds of staple holes that had never been puttied in, etc. etc. etc.)

If you really have only 2 or 3 problems that need fixed, get it done at a competent dealer and forget the trip to the mothership, but if you are like most owners, the trip is well worth the effort.
