Boiler fluid smell
We’ve had the AH on gas to heat the coach the last few days but last night we could smell boiler fluid inside the coach. 2014 Aspire. 44b.
No proof, but I suspect a leak near a register. I can also smell it in the basement. No signs of leaking anywhere as yet.
It appears the wood trim around the register will pull off after the screws are removed. I’ll start there.
I’ve read most of the threads addressing circ pump replacement I don’t think that is the issue.
I have a service tech coming in a week but I would like to eliminate as much as possible prior.
Has anyone been through this?
Any suggestions are welcome.

Only thing I can think to help is pressure test it like an engine cooling system. While hot it will tend to evaporate the leakage so harder to find. IF it will leak under pressure while cool, that would give you some chance to see the drip.
Otherwise, the connections are the most likely places to leak.

Safari- thanks.
I ran zones 1 and 3 separately to see I could duplicate it. Nothing obvious.
I also put my nose down by each register to see if I could smell anything there. Nothing. At least I know it’s not the registers.
We have a second virtual zone that I have no idea where that leads to.
We also have under floor heating but I never use it. Not that that can’t be the source.
I will check that circ pump again. I will also run the zones separately again for a longer period as the temps drop.

Tom, is it possible that the expansion tank was too full and overflowed. There might be a puddle where it drains.
Later...

At this point, I would recommend keeping an eye on the reservoir level. It will fluctuate with use, but best to check it when system is cold and note that level with a piece of tape. If you see the level consistently dropping, it's a pretty good sign there is a leak in the system. Unfortunately, you may have to wait until the leak presents itself better or seek out service on the system.

Tom, try to shine a flashlight thru the air intake under the half bath sink. From that side you might be able to see the hose connections on the back side of the Cozy Heater or if there is a puddle on the floor.
If needed, for full access to the mid coach Cozy Heater, remove the floor of the cabinet in the half bath. Six or 8 screws and the thin panel slides up on the drain pipe giving decent access.
But yeah, check the expansion tank for overflow. Also, a couple of times I accidentally left the cap off the overflow tank and could smell the glycol even inside the coach.

I once left the cap off my AH reservoir when I added a small amount of boiler fluid and had that issue. Make sure the cap is on the tank, and snug.

Another suggestion of a place to look. On the passenger side straight across from the AH is the boost pump for the forward heat of the coach. A panel will have to be removed. That is the same pump as the other AH pumps, it is just scred to an upright piece of wood with standard clamps that can come loose over time. Check that pump for a loose line fitting. If you can't find it, turn the forward heat on and follow the noise.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
The Packer game kinda side tracked me. Don’t have to worry about that now😂
I’m going to repeat the same process of running zones separately and see what’s what.
Thanks for the tip on the half bath sink vanity. Since the smell is most concentrated in there, I was focusing on looking around there.

Check the backside of the Aquahot. There are many lines and one circulation pump there that could leak.

X2 there was a recall on the OEM spring clamps to constant tension clamps. Did the previous owner comply?

Well, last 24 hours, no smell.
Mark’s admission to leaving the cap off the reservoir made me double check mine. Bingo.
To fill my reservoir, I use a hand siphon/pump. At 6ft+ and two knees ready for replacement, it’s a challenge to get low enough to look up at the cap.
Felt pretty dumb…not the first time…
Thanks Mark! And everyone.
