Brake question

I just realized that when my Aspire is parked, the parking brake doesn't activate the tag axle. I find this kind of odd because with air brakes, you apply air to release the brakes.

Has anybody else found this issue?

It activates the spring break. The coach will not move.

The parking brake just activates the drive axle brakes, when the brake pedal is depressed, all the axles brake.........

That is true only for service brakes. The parking brake is spring loaded and is applied when the air pressure is removed allowing the brakes on the drive axle to be applied. The springs and thus the parking brake is only on the drive axle. This is the same as all air brake equipped trucks. That is why you have to have air pressure before you can release the parking brakes and move the vehicle, conversely they will set automatically if you loose all air pressure. JMHO

You could also have spring brakes on the tag but the chassis mfg do not install them on chassis for motorhome use and really don't need them I suppose.

Tandem axle tractors will generally have spring brakes on one drive axle with an option for both drives thus four spring brakes. All axles on a trailer will have spring brakes.

Now on straight tandem trucks (non tractor) spring brakes will be on both drives. This is the general setup there are always exceptions.

When you setup a commercial truck there is a whole host options for specific jobs.

How did you come to realize you only had parking brakes on the drive?

I think it's great that you investigating how your air brake system works.
