Broke Down Engine Codes ?????

Well tried to start a trip Sat morning in our 15 Entegra Anthem. I didn't even make it out of the resort we live in and I had engine malfunction light (Not the CHECK ENGINE light). Ran the codes and found that I had SPN 111 FMI 3, SPN 3513 FMI 4 and SPN 4334 FMI 2. I found out what the codes mean and trying to figure out where to start. Cummins is closed and I have to wait till Mon to see if I can even bring it in or need a tow. I have tried engine ECM reset and that didn't work. Being as one related to DEF fluid I drained it (didn't know how old it was as I bought the coach in Jan) and refilled. Still same codes. Throttle was very touchy, you barely put any pressure on it and the motor wants to rev to redline before you hardly get a chance to release the pedal. Spartan said it could be corrosion on plugs or a ground. Been working on resetting each plug

This morning whatever I did I have a normal throttle back but still have same codes. Tried the ignition on off trick 3 times but that didn't work. I wished I knew where all the ground were so I could clean them. Posted this to Spartan forum as well. Any ideas

Sharing what the codes meant might help others to help you. My DEF Code was 3031, I don't know what codes you have relate to.

I looked up your codes. Here they are

SPN 111 Coolant level; below normal operating range. Voltage below normal range.

SPN 3515 After treatment. DEF temperature sensor 2, Current is below normal

SPN 4334: After treatment, DEF pressure. Erratic data, intermittent or incorrect data.

Now, verify this with a call to SPN customer emergency service, but my understanding is that all those FMI codes are relatively low and don't indicate a really serious problem that would likely produce a shut down situation, but don't take my word for this.....; conform this with Spartan.

Gary the one code you posted is actually 3513 NOT 3515, which relates to sensor supply 5 - voltage below normal, or shorted to a low source.

After further troubleshooting I found that if I have the coolant level sensor plugged in then I have the runaway throttle but if I disconnect the plug my throttle works as normal. Called cummins but they said if they had to order parts it would have to come from Spartan as that part of the system was put on by them and not Cummins. So instead of being charged a diagnostics fee I just went ahead and called Spartan and have them send me a coolant sensor overnight seeing as it might have failed and caused all of the other problems I am showing. If it doesn't then I guess I will make a trip down to Cummins in Savannah.

Has anyone explained to you why a faulty coolant sensor would affect your throttle control? Did Spartan indicate that there could be a correlation between the two symptoms you have? Just curious as I cannot see the relationship, but then with all the electronics, it's beyond my pay grade.

Larry, While doing my search on the code 3513 it lists a number of sensors to disconnect in the chain until the error goes away and the throttle pedal sensor was one of them. So being as it works when the coolant sensor is not plugged in, I am going to take that as part of it and change the coolant sensor. If it doesn't I'm being told I can leave it disconnected and drive but heres to hoping it fixes the issue and is the cause of all these other codes.

Thanks.

So, the code actually indicates an issue with a sensor, but does not designate which one, is that correct? So by trial and error, you found that the coolant sensor, when disconnected, corrected your throttle issue, but your throttle sensor does not? Does this sound right?

Don’t want to lead you in the wrong direction but the only common thing that I could think of between the throttle pedal and the coolant level is a common ground point. I see the coach is a 2015 could have some corrosion going on at the grounds.

That could be true but where the hell are the grounds LOL. I have looked and the only one I found was on the starter and next to it the engine block.

FIXED

Ok the coolant level sensor was the issue. Just a heads up though, the sensor is made out of plastic and upon removal it broke off inside the tank. So I had to carefully drill out the sensor and then had to go buy a 1/4-18 pipe thread tap. This actually pulled the rest of the plastic out of the threads.

Put everything back together, refilled with fluid, started engine and got my normal throttle back and codes disappeared. So we are gonna try to leave for our trip again this Fri.

Do you do house calls for a mobile RV tech? I’m impressed!

Also, sorry for the error.....
