Understand that Shaw Def heads are on gen.#7.
Is anyone seeing failures on 2021
coaches or are the failures 2020 and older?
Anyone know?

My 21 DEF head failed in 1,500 miles. Spartan makes no sense what generation they install at the factory. They installed a Gen 5 DEF head in my chassis when Gen 6's had been out for 6 months. They sent a new chassis out the door with the blessing of "Good Luck". It failed quickly.
As for older coaches, my 19 DEF head failed in 1,900 miles. JME.

CANCEL my Cornerstone order

Unbelievable! I have a 2022 London Aire on order and now second guessing my decision!
Spartan is all they come on now.

Can you identify the generation by visibly looking and the head. Is it listed on a label one can see?

My 2021 Anthem has a Gen 6 DEF head. Don’t know when they started installing Gen 7 and have not seen failure data on Gen 7.

I had to ask Spartan service and they checked the chassis build sheet.

Hi all
I just feel I am missing something. Is there only one supplier for this product? No company could possibly be that stupid or short-sighted. There must be a third-party supplier and if there is not, why not.

The question is now, why has Spartan continued to use the same supplier for 5 years and 7 failed attempts at manufacturing a DEF head that will work?

More specifically, the company is Shaw Development LLC:

My 21 had a gen 5 fail pre delivery. They replaced it with a gen 6. So far ~13,000 trouble free miles

I just received a letter from Enter stating that they where reserving DEF heads for people who where broke down. It seems they are aware of the problem and at least trying to do something about it.

Soon after I bought my GMC truck the DEF head went, the local dealer replaced it and found the tank heaters were gone. The dealer has been very helpful. There have been a few other issues with the system but all in all it has worked well. The point I'm trying to make is that all the manufacturers have problems with the DEF systems and I guess we have to be patient. I feel for the OP in not being able to use his coach for an entire summer. Still I don't think I would cancel for that reason. I just wish I could be in a position to order one. they are a great coach.

Condolences, AZA and others that are having issues.

Gosh, I think I'll stick with my gasoline PU and pull behind trailer.

I've 'broken down' three times in the last 10 years. Overnight once, a few hours twice.
I never did like the idea of the engine and home in the same package... like buying a television with a stereo in it. One breaks down, both are affected.

What engine do you have first? Spartan did not make the def head for one, I'm an old school mechanicn, not so much on the DEF, but we have a bunch where I work. Freaking trouble all the time, heavy equipment operator by trade now. The mechanics that fix our equipment say most def heads are interchangeable, several generations of them now but still interchangeable. Search your engine brand and you will find them at most auto parts stores, Amazon, Ebay, Summit Racing for starts. All brands use the same technology and none make their own DEF heads. We bought a 2002 DP with a Cummins just to stay away from most of the electronics and regen/DEF . I can diagnose and rebuild anything on or attached to this coach. My 2 cents.
