I came from the boating world to the RV world in 2014. I spent a year looking at different RVs for ideas, configurations, etc ... Even back then the whole DEF issue was troubling - I saw the amount of equipment involved, the necessity of taking on yet another fluid, and opted for an older coach specifically to avoid having to deal with DEF. Now 6 or 7 years later I am reading one sad story after another - our EPA has shot all RV buyers in the foot with this poorly thought out, overly complex system to gain what? A tiny improvement in emissions? My 2002 Travel Supreme - 400 HP Cummins ISL 8.8 liter gets 10mpg. It burns no oil at 104,000 miles. It has a side radiator, raised rail chassis, and if you wanted to spend the money you could make an older coach just as high end as new ones are. I smelled a rat about DEF systems in 2014 and am forever grateful that I did. I am sorry for all the trouble this system is causing my fellow RVers.

We have chosen the route your post suggests. We have a pre-def coach and the engine is running well at 46k though we did replace two injectors a while back. We have updated fans, shades, tvs, cabinets, roofing and some ceilings. We do enjoy the coach. Next will be the residential fridge and two new recliners for the sleeper sofa. Its about time to stop upgrading and just enjoy it now.

Buy an older, high end , diesel coach. Refurbish it to suit your needs and taste. Then just enjoy it. The couple of hundred thousand dollars you will save is a bonus.
Something like a Wanderlodge or Eagle that was built on a million mile chassis and drive train, with top quality components by people that actually did their job will still by rolling down the road when the new electronically controlled coaches are long buried.

DEF heads and spartan

Now because of what I am hearing and my personal experience with Spartan engineering (Spartan told it is not their fault, blaming their supplier...whatever) Regretfully I must cancel my Cornerstone I was so excited about and find comparable coach not built on a Spartan frame.

Just remember DEF heads and components are vender items and used on most manufacturers just like Spartan so when running away from something you know and enjoy be careful not to jump from the pot into the fire........just saying.

That is true but manufactures use different vendors for DEF heads.
