Car Stereo Speakers in Anthem

Does anyone know the size of the speakers that are mounted low in the kick panels next to the DS and the PS in the 2014 Anthem? The sound is pretty cheap sounding so I plan to spend about 100 bucks to upgrade. They look like 5 1/4 to me but not sure.

I can't help with the size, but please let us know what you upgrade to and how they sound. You are the second post I have seen regarding the sound quality of those speakers.

I've been very surprised at the low quality sound systems in higher end coaches that I have observed in the past few months. I am not an expert by any means, but have seen a number of instances in which a nice home theater/stereo receiver was connected to car speakers. (So I tried it too) It doesn't work very well because of the mismatch on the impedance. You can hook up great quality car speakers to a home system, and they don't sound as good as their potential.

So unless you are running sound from a car stereo head unit, you might want to consider indoor home theater ceiling speakers. They may sound much better.

The speakers I'm talking about are connected to the in dash head unit. They are car audio speakers and should therefore be 4 ohms.

The current speakers are 4". A 6x9 will fit with a little careful cutting. It's a pretty easy project and we'll worth it.

Nice! I will go that route. Are you getting enough power out of the head unit?

I changed out all of the 4" in the overhead area, the 5 1/4 next to the ds and ps and the outside entertainment one .They 4" were stamped "made in china". I also added a small amp and the sound is night and day better.

I changed mine to 6"ers. The stock speakers are crap. Wish I had used 6X9 because although my new speakers are much better, they come up short on bass. 6" is about as big as you can fit up front. but as shown above the 6X9 works for the kick panels. Al these replacements require some cutting.

All true. The 6x9 will have the bass you are looking for and you do not need a separate amp. I use an additional amp in my system but that's another story. I changed my fronts but they are only a little better( I used a better speaker but the same size). I would start with the kick panel speakers and then go from there. The 6x9's really helped a lot.

I was going to put a small powered sub-woofer on the wall behind the driver's seat, but maybe I'll try the 6X9. What brand and model 6X9 did you use?

And don't hold out on us! Why the extra amp?

While 6x9's will certainly outperform 4" crap...may I suggest that NO oval shaped active speaker can produce hi fidelity sound simply because of the inherent distortion of the speakers oval shape and center drive. That is why there are no oval home speakers. You're trading a little more bass for a lot more distortion.
The preferred speaker in this case would be a 6 1/2" round coaxial model from a good maker...i.e. someone who makes HOME speakers rather than just automotive products. (That's a GENERAL guideline...as there are a few autosound specialists who make good speakers.)
These Polks would be my recommendation but one might also consider lower priced Polks, Infinity's, JBL and MBQuart among others.

Really!??! You do realize that we are talking about a large, noisey (even an Entegra) shoe box that is hurtling down the highway with, at least in my case, two old people jamming to Jethro Tull! Distortion, I promise, will never be heard before you hear "turn that down!" I bet I could spend half the money and get a better sound with better bass using the 6X9 rather than a 6" even though, you are right, the 6" is a better speaker. We all have cars that the manufacturers have spent hundred thousands of dollars on getting all 10 or 12 or 20 speakers in just the best locations. None of those cars have oval speakers because is not optimal. I think the 6x9, as long as it doesn't get overworked, gives you better bass performance and does it cheaply.
It's all just my opinion, but I don't think "Hi fidelity" and the audio systems in virtually every motorhome should ever be spoken in the same sentence. Speaker location and environment is everything and motorhomes are just not conducive. I have a lot of money audio equipment in the stix n brix and I do enjoy "Tull" turned way up but I enjoy it just as much in the motorhome, it's not as loud nor as clear but the view is better!!
