Question Carrying Propane in electric DP

Trying to figure our where people put their 20lb propane tanks while travelling. I plan to use to power a grill and portable fire pit where allowed. Does anyone do this or do you just get propane after you arrive at your destination?

Thanks All and Safe Travels!

When we go for the winter I carry it in the toad but if we are traveling with many stops I just use the one pound cylinders.

Electric DP? Like are they making an electric Diesel pusher? I'm confused.

If it is a DP, I've always had or seen basement compartments that would be big enough to carry a 20 lb bottle and did so with my previous Bounder. This Journey has a giant 33 gallon propane tank though so don't need to carry extra.

The only rules are that it should be strapped in place, AND there needs to be a hole big enough for any propane that escapes to fall to the ground. That's easy enough to DIY in any RV basement I think.

Let me know what an Electric DP is.

I think what the OP means is his DP is all electric, no propane.

No propane appliances. Technically not all electric, as most have an aqua hot type unit for heat and hot water.

I use a small, refillable 5 lb. "baby bottle". It's short and has a nice wide base so it won't tip over. I carry it in my "tool" storage bay where all the other stuff keeps it from sliding around.

Regards,

Randy

Doh. All electric DP. Range, heating, cooling, WH, refer, etc. Yeah, I should have guessed that.

I have been reading articles about a hybrid Electric/Diesel RV for months though so it'll happen eventually. I worked for Hyster Engineering Electric Fork Lift Division for years so have often wondered why it hasn't been done already. Getting excited to see that happen.

I use a plastic crate to carry my 20lbs propane tank in the basement. No issues.

Cheers!

20# Propane cylinder fits a Milk Crate perfectly
Holds it Upright (required) and crate can be secured

Only other thing necessary is opening in bottom of compartment so should propane cylinder relief valve open the propane being lighter then air has a means of not accumulating in the compartment

I put ours in front passenger seat of the Jeep and lock it in with seatbelt. Extend seatbelt all the way out then slowly let it in and it will lock in place. No extra containers to carry around and works fine. I just put something undearneath like a towel so it doesn’t damage seat bottom.

crack windows?

Nothing like having a Jeep full of propane vapor cause relief valve popped open from HEAT

X2, nice and cool down there, never been an issue either.
I never carry a completely full #20lber though, maybe 50-60% max.

I have window vent shades, just leave windows down enough that if it rains nothing gets wet.

You can legally carry propane up to a certain amount and a 20 lb. container is no problem. I actually use a 10 lb. container for my Q grill. Just store them upright. There heat won't be an issue because the propane is only filled to 80% so it has room to expand in a high heat environment. One safety feature you can use is to forget about the black plastic dust cap that covers the POL fitting on the tank. Instead get a red nylon POL plug that screws into the threads (left hand thread on all POL fittings). It'll seal tight so even a leaky valve won't allow any LP gas to escape. We use them all the time on our portable construction heaters. They usually have a small poly chain or strap that prevents them from getting lost when you remove them.
