OK, what does your dash voltage gauge read???
Easiest place to troubleshoot the charging system is at the BATTERY ISOLATOR. Below ASSUMES you have a diode-based battery isolator. If solenoid-based isolator, it will be slightly different.
But, start by verifying that connections on the alternator, battery isolator and batteries are clean and tight. If a sense wire, which is small gauge, make sure it reads chassis battery voltage.
Start engine and raise RPM to around 1,200
Check voltage at the center lug (connected to alternator B+ terminal. It should be in the mid 14's VDC. The two outer lugs (one to each battery bank) should read around .6 VDC lower.
Whole diagnosis takes less than 10 minutes. Yes, you do need a digital voltmeter.
