Checking generator oil

I was at my coach today to check the oil in my generator (10KW).
Just had it changed but checking before we start out to the Northeast.
Opened the front and noticed a pin on the slide rail which I disengaged to pull out the generator. I could not budge the monster but an inch. Do you have to pull the generator out on the slide in order to check the oil???

My last 2 coaches had 8kw generators with a dipstick conveniently located on the front.

There are two pins. One for the door, and the second to release the generator on its rollers.

After you open the hatch, the second one is on the side of the DS rail.

On that second release pin, you have to make sure you pull it out all the way. Also, the rollers that the rails ride on tend to get gimmed up with crud from traveling. Keep them clean and well lubricated. I squirt it down with T9 every time I open up that compartment.

While we are on the subject...do others have a battery cable going across the outside of access panel for checking the oil? I do, and I think it is going to get moved.

Yes, I have the same thing. Some things are just "there" rather than put in some kind of order. Not much thought in some of the wiring.

Same

As a previous poster suggested. I think an hour or so with about 50 wire ties is coming. Be careful if you tie wires up that you can still slide the genny full in and out, and you have to be mindful of wiring chafing.

I looked at that carefully the other day and it looks like I can move the cable clamp back one bolt and not have any chaffing. I am going to try it and see. It is a pain to remove the door where the ground cable is on mine.

I am starting on the generator area with wire ties in the morning, it is #2 on the list.

Found a photo for the OP. The generator slide release is the "gold looking" T handle right below the horn in this photo.
