Yes this is a fun trip. The bridges are separate 2-lanes each way but the tunnels are 2-lane two way traffic. Just be slow and enjoy the scenery. Our CB antenna did tick on the roof of the tunnels but otherwise had plenty of room.

We've been on the bridge-tunnel and enjoyed it. They allow overnight parking on one of the transitions between tunnel and bridge. My son was 3 at the time, staying at that rest area and waking up seeing the big ships going by is the thing from this trip he remembers to this day!

BTW, there are a lot of threads on this forum regarding the bridge-tunnel, here, here and here are some of I found in a quick search.

I started the post Chuck referenced. It was excellent and we did take the route on our way North heading back to NJ. The bridge was no real issue and while it was a little longer back to NJ the ride was so much more relaxed that going around DC.

Just did the bridge and tunnel route over memorial day weekend. I loved it, but I think DW was concerned when our antennas touched the ceiling of the tunnels.

I love it.

My DW wasn't concerned in the least when the antenna was hitting the roof of the tunnel, she just asked if I had put the Sat Dish down ;-)
