City/Fresh Water Valve Replacement

Hi everyone,

We had rarely noticed some small water drops from behind our valve along with one instance of the fresh water tank slightly filling when hooked to city water.

We contacted Entegra parts regarding a replacement for the valve, but they suggested a local department store.

Has anyone replaced the value and if so, would you have any part # info? Also any tips on the replacement? Based on the location I worry it will be difficult to access.

Thanks,
Paul

There was a post years ago where someone installed installed a brass diverter valve from Home Depot. There were a lot of problems with the ones installed on the Classics they failed often, usually not switching. I looked, but I could not find the post. The link is for example only, check the connection fittings on your valve. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Tectite-...483720#overlay

If you are talking about the City/Tank valve, then yes, I replaced mine with a standard 1/2” - 1/4 turn in line valve. Any big box or hardware store.

There are two screws holding the old valve to the backside of the panel besides the two screws on the front side holding the cover.

I made three mods to make this work.
1) rounded out the original hole EC put in.
2) removed the new handle, re bent it to fit the hole. Pretty simple if you have a vice handy.
3) drilled out two holes to run a nut and bolt to hold the new valve. The new valve should have mounting holes.

There should be enough slack, but not much, to get access to work on it.
Cut the PEX clamps and reassemble the new valve. I used PEX clamps and a PEX crimp. If you don’t have one, both are usually near the valves, at least at HD.

EC, nor NIRVC stock parts beyond ten years.
I replaced the original about 5 years ago with another plastic valve, which of course, failed.
Let me know if you need more info.

Do you have any photos of the replacement valve? We had ours replaced last fall and it lasted just about long enough to get our coach home and then broke.

Thanks to everyone for the responses! I was a little surprised when the EC parts department didn't have access to the part info, but it sounds as though that could be a growing issue for us with a 2015 coach.

I really like the idea of replacing the plastic valve with a new standard version. befandtomH I appreciate the detailed instructions. I don't think we have any screws holding the cover. It seems there is a "mounting block" attached to the cover which is the attachment point for the valve.

We are currently on the road so I will probably wait a few weeks before attempting the repair when we are near locations with hardware stores close by.

I'll post the results once we've made the switch. Thanks again for the help.

RecPro, it was a common problem on the 2014 models when new, so it is not that new. I was lucky, only had mine stick once. The second time I would have switched to a brass valve. With Shark Bite valves available now, updating should be easy.

Here is the link to the part. If there is no HD near you, any hardware store would have it too.

When I removed the old valve, the hole EC cut was poorly shaped. I rounded it a bit to make look better. I test fitted the new valve and found it would not fit.
My wood backer is thick. The way I got around that was by removing the handle on the valve and re bent it to bring it out from where it attaches.
Once that was done, I could determine where I could put new holes to re attach it.
Like I said earlier, I had enough slack to pull the old valve down, cut the connections, and use new PEX crimps.
I’ll get a picture a little later but your photos are pretty similar.

Attached is what mine looks like. My intent is to round out the hole a bit more and find a plastic cap to finish.

Number One - if you disassemble anything take photos first. Number two - removing PEX fittings is easy IF you use a heat gun to soften the tubing before trying to remove it from the fitting (after unscrewing the plastic nut carefully). Number 3 - when you remove the valve/fixture, examine it carefully. I changed a diverter valve used to fill the water tank and installed it upside down. It had an arrow, which was intended to point in the direction of the diversion (water tank.) These fittings are available in lots of places - bring the old one with you and you could get lucky and find one in the first RV parts place you try.
